- Noemi R17 contributionsA great journey to the timeless beauty of ancient SicilyThe visit of the ancient castle has been an unexpected surprise especially considering that it is the biggest one in Sicily. Our guide described all in a very professional way, triggering our curiosity ☺️. The duration of the visit is of 1 hour and half, strongly suggested to be done at the sunset (a breathtaking view from the top of the castle!!). The balance between quality and price of the ticket make this experience a no miss occasion to do even during a short trip to Eolian islands (no reservation needed). After the visit enjoy an aperitif in one of the welcoming and cozy places near the castle area.Visited August 2022Travelled with friendsWritten 23 August 2022
- Rosemary B2 contributionsStunning Views & Stunning GuideI'm trying to find out the last name of our tour guide Beatrice, who must've been contracted by our Viking Cruise tour (10/20/22). She was incredible! Educated, well spoken, funny, insightful! I would strongly recommend her to tour you anywhere! If anyone knows who I'm speaking of please respond because I'd love to give her a personal review! The drive up to the town of Milazzo held spectacular views of mountains, seas, beautiful olive and orange groves - stunning. Once in town, the hike to the Castle/fortress was a bit difficult for a sedentary person like me, but once we reached the top of the castle, the views took my breath away! I didn't want to leave. Beatrice explained everything with interesting side commentary and stories. Her voice is melodic and it was indeed a pleasure to listen to her paint a verbal picture on the bus rides up and back as well. My ancestors are Sicilian, and Beatrice made it feel like home.Visited October 2022Written 6 November 2022
- Deborah BMarietta, Georgia254 contributionsPlan to spend a few hours - cool castle and grounds!Really cool castle and exhibits and grounds to explore. So glad we did this on our first afternoon in Milazzo - it’s a bit of a hike uphill from the ferry area of town, but we’ll worth the walk. Extensive grounds and properties, and it was actually free to get in the day we went. The exhibits are all really well done, with tons of information and things to learn. Set aside a couple hours at least - we thoroughly enjoyed this, even without a guide.Visited April 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 June 2023

It was really quiet when I went in April. For only €5 you get a lot of variety. There is the Norman castle itself which is great to wonder around and with amazing views over the bays to Etna, a relative uninteresting old Duomo, but several quirky little museums on the site too.
One was an exhibition of the damage we are doing to the sea with out rubbish, especially plastics. It was visually interesting as well as stimulating. There were piles of rubbish, a skeleton hind with plastic in it, sea creatures made from plastic, etc.
Elsewhere there was an exhibition about the history of the once very important tuna industry.
My favourite was an exhibition seeking to show the fascinating palimpsest of Sicilian culture and history through masks, music and theatre. I had a fascinating conversation with the professor and his wife who were running it. He seeks to make his philosophy and history practical and real to modern Sicilians who he believes don’t know much about their own history.
A wonderful morning.

€20 for four to get in… there are maps and some content boards to explain the history… the views are good and there is enough to see for about 45 to 60 mins max.
It would be better if there was more info on how the space within the city walls was used what type of business were there and what went on day to day…
Not just the famous dates of battles..

While they are getting three stars for posting their operating hours on TripAdvisor they are losing two stars because, typical of many Italian sites, there are no signs indicating the status. Me and several other tourists were able to wander way into the facility before being told they were closed.

Milazzo might not have so much to visit, but this castle is one of the most impressive in Sicily. Take, at least, 2h to visit it, as there is a very complete museum inside, as well as some temporary exhibitions.

Milazzo is a beauty city in the northeast of Sicily Island. There are several attractions, one of the best is surely the castle.

Dominates the main port to the islands. Modern and functional, Corso Umberto is a pleasant shop or stroll while waiting for visitors the ferry. Uptown you can visit the fortified citadel

Hello
I heard that there is a bus near the cruise terminal to Castello di Milazzo.
After I get off, how far is the walk to the Castello di Milazzo? Also, is the road flat or steep?
About the bus, is there 24 hr bus pass or day bus pass? How much is it? And does the buses go to different sights?
Thanks
D

Hello ! I don't know about the bus but the walk is nice but steep.
It took us about 40 minutes to walk from the ferry terminal
