While they are getting three stars for posting their operating hours on TripAdvisor they are losing two stars because, typical of many Italian sites, there are no signs indicating the status. Me and several other tourists were able to wander way into the facility before being told they were closed.

Milazzo might not have so much to visit, but this castle is one of the most impressive in Sicily. Take, at least, 2h to visit it, as there is a very complete museum inside, as well as some temporary exhibitions.

Milazzo is a beauty city in the northeast of Sicily Island. There are several attractions, one of the best is surely the castle.

Dominates the main port to the islands. Modern and functional, Corso Umberto is a pleasant shop or stroll while waiting for visitors the ferry. Uptown you can visit the fortified citadel

Located on the top of a heal the Castel is huge if you want to walk around. The walls are old but clean and the view is breathless.

The castle is impressive. The problem was the lack of transportation to get there. It is necessary to climb a hill. The trip would have been fine if it had not been for an unpleasant moment that my wife and I had had. We have gone mad after the taxi drivers demanded an exaggerated amount of money.
Entry cost 5 euros.
The place is fine, there is good scenery and fresh air. It has a lot of history. Still, we left with a bad image due to taxi drivers
A little unhappy

We walked up to Castello di Milazzo from our nearby hotel on the beach in the late afternoon (Hotel Esperia – see separate review).

Just follow the path up at the end of Via Porticella. It is a lovely walk.

Whilst we were too late to enter the castle (saving that for next time), it is still a fascinating area to explore and the views are spectacular.

This has always been a strategically important location and the information board informed us that the first fortifications were built here in 4,000BC!

Like so much of Sicily, the castle has since been modified by its subsequent rulers: the Greeks, the Romans, the Arabs, the Normans, the Germans and the Spanish (and this list is incomplete!)

We also took a look around the charming ancient village (Borgo) that sits on the ridge line situated just outside the castle walls. Many of the old buildings have been restored and converted for modern day use. Parts of the borgo have lovely views east back over Milazzo and the harbour.

The castle in Milazzo is huge, it I’ll take you a couple of hours to get around. The positive this is that the information boards are in multiple languages

The castle is an amazing place, with so much history and a great view of all milazzo. It is possible to look Etna from there. There are walls and buildings of differents civilizations which there were in Sicilia (Bizantines, arabics, aragon kingdom, normands...)
There is also a very intesresting museum of traditional coustoms inside the castle.
The entrance, i remember it was like 5 euros, and its easy to arrive walking. However, ATTENTION TO taxidrivers (BE CAREFULL)!! They will try cheat, asking too much money or saying there aren't transport like bus to go there.
The castle is close to Borgo, the old city.
