Worth a visit and the walk up

Nice little visit...there's a guy there that will show you around the lower entry area and the 'bedroom' in the tower. Then you can walk up and see some old Roman houses and... read more

Although after the many, many steps (around 800 I think?), we discovered it closed...but the views from beneath the castle walls overlooking Maiori and the mountains was well worth the walk (we'd brought our lunch with us so ate it there and enjoyed the view...and peace - very tranquil up there!).

We did this walk one morning - not worth all the effort as when you get to the top it's all locked up and looks uninhabited!

Visited the castle on the last morning of our holiday to Maiori. We had already walked a couple of the local paths so knew what to expect - steep hills with lots of steps but well worth the effort as the views are spectacular. We arrived at just after 10am and were greeted by the owner, who speaks Italian and... More

We counted 965 steps from when we started our climb in Maiori town to the top of the fort. Didn't know what to expect but the views are stunning and well worth the climb. Very friendly gentleman can explain in broken English about the collection of Roman artefacts. Magnificent experience.

A walk over many steps leads you to the castello where a very friendly man will tell you everything about the history of Maiori. It takes a little time to get there, but you will have a magnificent view.

A long climb to the top of the hill behind Maiori and then you can marvel at the wonderful view of the town and the surrounding hills, as well as explore this ancient castle. Its worth making the effort to engage with the proprietor - my girlfriend was able to translate and he can explain the history of the castle... More
