Located across from Piazza d’Italia, one of 3 gates leading to the Centro storico district of Lecce, it was rebuilt in 1774. The gate is dedicated to San Biagio who was born in Armenia and died a martyr, however, legend says he was born in Lecce and fled to Aremnia. .

Walked through Porta Biagio every time we walked from our apartment nearby, into the historical centre and it never failed to impress. The 1774 gate features the coat of arms of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon in the centre, flanked by the City of Lecce’s coat of arms, (which can also be seen on the ground in Piazza Sant'Oronzo). The 17.3 metre gate is topped off with a statue of St Biagio/St Blaise.

Surrounded by great restaurants. The gates are all around Lecce, and to see it you just need to walk around the city. It is free and a great chance to see the local architecture.

A gorgeous entrance to the quaint old city of Lecce, one of three gates still remaining. Of course it's adorned by your typical saints and religious ornamentation.

Beautiful and once passed under you are on a very nice storic center. An amazing spanish storic center, not like Andaluzia but like Castilla. I wasn't prepared for the surprise and that made me go back on time to remember the Kingdom of 2 Secilias. To whom loves History, this is an amazing city.

One of the three city gates to historical part of Lecce. Constructed in 18th century. Not so huge as Porta Napoli but still impressive. Dedicated to St Blais whose figure is presented on the top of the 17 metres high gate.

Not the most popular entrance to the baroque centre but is very well restored in its Baroque decoration and a popular destination with night life seekers. Very nice lighting at night too.
