Great and very ornate baroque facade

This is a beautiful church in the center of Lecce which has one of the best facade in the area. During my visit part was been restored and had several scaffoldings.

I love the baroque architecture in Lecce. The Lecce stone has a lovely 'glow' when the sun hots it early in the morning and at sunset. Sculptors loved this stone....

One of the most important landmarks to visit in Lecce. Again located in the heart of the old town. Must see.

The exterior baroque work is the reason the basilica is famous. The construction of the Basilica of the Holy Cross began in 1353, then halted until middle of the 16th century and was finally completed at the end of 17th century. The facade has six columns, large rose window and large number of animals and grotesque figures. Inside it's still... More

A wonderful ancient church in Leece, this town has several and especially two excellent churches that are well worth the stop. This is one of them, worth a visit if you are in town.

We were lucky that we stayed at the Palazzo Persone, a hotel almost adjacent to the Basilica. Opening your eyes to such an external beauty makes your day outstanding from the start. And to add to all that there is some live music in the mornings by a mobile artist.Just watch the lace facade and listen to the music.

Stunning cathedral and a must see if you're in Lecce!! We wish that the scaffolding hadn't been up but it hardly takes away from the beauty!!
