Awesome, beautiful church, lots of history. Well worth a visit if you are in L'Aquila. Is over 700 years old, and includes the tomb of pope Celestine V. Repairs are still being made to the 2009 earthquake damage in L'Aquila.

Church like many others, looks good on pictures because it closes the park alley. But in reality its nothing special. Certainly not the site that you should specially go to.

When we visited the place was closed with gates. Impossible to see anything of the building except the upper part of the front facade. See picture. Not worth a visit if under construction.

There is a place in l'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy. Where you can find the great beauty and finally peace. This place in my opinion is very close to Him. This place is Santa Maria di Collemaggio.

Very beautiful from the outside, was hoping to see the inside but it was closed. I hope inside visits are possible before 17/12/2017 (the expected finishing date, also see the photo of the plaque, bottom line).

This is a remarkable piece of history and historical basilica. The earthquake really took it's toll on the basilica. The positive side is that it is under construction and in the process of getting restored. The front facade of the basillica di Santa di Collemaggio...More

I was born in L'Aquila, living in northern Italy. Every time I come back in my town, I need to spend few minutes walking in the grass in front of Collemaggio church, looking at the outstanding facade, in the typical Abruzzo Romanesque style. It's amazing...More
