A made a return visit to Ferrara to visit this monster and to view the frescoes in the chapel. I wasn't disappointed. Although there are specific opening times, you still need to ring a bell and to be let in by a nun who takes...More

This monastery is definitely worth the walk. Although a little off the centre it is, in our opinion, one of the highlights of our visit to Ferrara. The frescoes are beautiful and the extraordinary atmosphere of the monastery, still in use, is a lasting memory.

Beautiful trecento frescoes and gives a real feeling for many women's lives in the late medieval and early Renaissance periods.

If you can't get to the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, there are beautiful frescoes here in Giotto's style. Well worth the visit, and there are some lovely gardens too.

The frescoes are magnificent, but perhaps best to research them a bit on your own, and then tell nun who must repeat tour 50x per week that a)you know no Italian, or b)you are familiar with iconography. Do go to the services (4-5 daily); the...More
