Build in the local stone in C14th, the duomo looks quite plain from the outside but it is beautiful inside - it's situated very near to Porta Trapani. The lace-patterned ceiling is most unusual and quite stunning and there is a lovely rose window. You have to pay to enter but you can get a combined ticket that allows you entry to the next-door tower and several other churches which is good value.

Let's face it, every town in Sicily boasts at least one cathedral along with numerous other beautiful churches. It's so easy to become jaded by ornate images. The exterior of this Norman creation looks more like a castle or fort so I had no expectations about the interior. You have to acquire tickets for admission at an office at the base of the tower prior to entry.

Upon entering this church, I was simply blown away by the colors and the ornamentation. Others may disagree, but there was something magical about this place that held my interest and completely mesmerized me. I say this after seeing the bodacious interior of the cathedral at Monreale.

I did not have a lot of time to drink in the splendor here, but even so, the mark it left on me will never be forgotten. Every time I walk into a Home Depot and see the cheap crap and fixtures that are sold for home design, I will harken back to this place and think of the days when craftsman actually applied their talents to art and architecture. I truly believe this church has one of the most beautiful interiors I have ever witnessed. Do not miss this place while in Erice.

The castles in Erice don't show much at the moment, but the churches are great and this one together with San Giuliano is probably the nicest.

MEMS - The open Museum or Territorial Museum is an expose of the city itself in a walking tour. The city has created and mapped a walking itinerary through the lanes and streets of Erice which departs from the Royal Church and covers many of the city's major landmarks, points of interest and select restored churches. The cost €5/pp is a bargain as the admission into the five restored churches alone would cost double this fee - for an additional €1 you may purchase a 54 paged guide of the landmarks you will see with the recommended route all conveniently documented and packaged. The map itself is worth the euro to help you navigate this city of narrow passageways and steps. I am sure you will enjoy this tour which incudes 26 points of interest. Tickets can be purchased at any of the 5 MEMS churches -€ proceeds go back to resoration costs.

Very interesting place to visit Erice.
Very high up in the clouds with excellent views on a clear day, usually plenty of cloud though.

This is one of many interesting attractions we explored in Erice. The pretty medieval hilltop town is easily reached via the funicular in Trapani.
It has many churches just like this one, attractive, with interesting architecture.
There are many wonderful pastries and ice-cream shops nearby, and the gardens at the highest point offer lovely views of the surrounding countryside and the castle.

This is a really nice old town up on the top of a mountain. It’s very high up with great views. The church is very old and pretty amazing to see. It was free to enter.

Nice church. There was a queue of tourists to get in. I would say the best part is the white ceiling which I thought was very beautiful

It is located Immediately at your left after entering Porta Trapani, which is the gate you'll take when getting out the Funiculari-Cable Car (the preferred way to go to this village)
This Church is not in the same league, or even close to the other Cathedrals, Churches or Duomos in Italy and looks definitely modest, more like the Duomo of Taormina , but still it remains probably one of the more interesting places pieces to see in Erice.
From outside it doesn't look really special, but if you go inside you'll discover a beautiful place.
