To escape the heat in Trapani head up to Erice. The cable car ride is worthwhile, even if your visit coincides with a huge cloud obstructing your views!

Using the cable car to visit the beautiful medieval village of Erice is a must. We were advised by our hotel to use this rather than drive up, as the view is better from high up and they were absolutely right. There is great parking...More

This place is beautiful. A must to visit to Trapani and Sicily. Erice is located on top of a high hill overlooking Trapani and the coast. The views are outstanding. The town is so beautiful, very old, lots of history, churches, wonderful cobbled narrow streets....More

Lovely ride to this touristy, but still delightful, ancient hilltop town. Quaint narrow streets, albeit selling tat, and a nice bar in the main piazza. Spectacular view over the dull city of Trapani and way beyond – cloud permitting. Erice itself reminds me of the...More

Although I came to Trapani by car and could have driven to Eriche, I opted to take the funivia in order to save the drive and the time it will take.

I road the steep road from Trapani up to to ancient Erice. The ride was difficult but I was rewarded with beautiful and historic ancient Erice. The town is a must visit for anyone traveling in this beautiful part of Sicily.

On no account miss the cable car: it drives home how monumentally high Erice is, and offers intriguing views of Trapani below. I would recommend a taxi from the port, but agree on a price beforehand as is common throughout... More
