Using the cable car to visit the beautiful medieval village of Erice is a must. We were advised by our hotel to use this rather than drive up, as the view is better from high up and they were absolutely right.

This place is beautiful. A must to visit to Trapani and Sicily. Erice is located on top of a high hill overlooking Trapani and the coast. The views are outstanding. The town is so beautiful, very old, lots of history, churches, wonderful cobbled narrow streets....More

I road the steep road from Trapani up to to ancient Erice. The ride was difficult but I was rewarded with beautiful and historic ancient Erice. The town is a must visit for anyone traveling in this beautiful part of Sicily.

On no account miss the cable car: it drives home how monumentally high Erice is, and offers intriguing views of Trapani below. I would recommend a taxi from the port, but agree on a price beforehand as is common throughout the Med. Or the bus is perfectly serviceable.
The views from Erice are stupendous; its churches equally so.
