This area is great for walking. It’s a little uphill but it’s like going back centuries in time. It hasn’t added all the tourist places yet and looks so cool.

I’m just glad that we decided to drive up to this beautiful place. The road to reach Erice is up the mountain and we even encountered fog on the way, but when you reach the top the sun is there waiting for you in this magical place.
There are lots of restaurants and shops where you can buy local souvenirs which seem authentic. It is nice just to wander around the cobblestone streets, randomly. Do not wear heels or leather sole shoes, the stones are so smooth that it’s easy to slip.
Erice is also connected to Trapani via cableways but we didn’t try it.

Interesting old town with lots of character. More of a tourist town these days and a few locals that might summer up here, but tourists for the most part.

We are so happy that we decided to drive up to Castello Erice. It was an amazing drive up and down with great views. The town provides some very nice scenery and has all that is needed in terms of service.

The town was misty and a tad fresh when we arrived. It reminded me of quite a few places we have visited in the past with the Norman layout. The town is full of windy narrow streets selling the usual tourist trappings. The view which we missed due to the weather would of been magnificent.

We spent some time in Erice - just exploring the town and popping in and out of various shops. The walk was lovely with amazing vistas. It was quiet and uncrowded and most enjoyable. The road to reach the town is very steep and curvy but the drive is definitely worth it.

A stroll through Erice is a pleasant one, specially if you go off season. Explore the alleys and the churches and enjoy this beautiful medieval town. There is a combined ticket that allows you to enter 5 or 6 different sites for 10 eur only.

It's always a pleasure to walk in the romantic center of Erice, often wrapped in a cloud, even during summer. There are many little shop and restaurants and ancient monuments in a magic and welcoming atmosphere.

After having visited so many special "hanged" villages in Tuscany, Sicily, or Provence, like Gordes or Les Beaux de Provence, where the dominant color is on the reddish shades, this village offers a surprising Grey dominant color.
It is not as appealing nor beautiful as the other similar places,
It is actually quite surprising and somehow disappointing.
Yes the streets are narrow, beautiful with their stones and old buildings, but if I'd dare compare with food, the texture is there but no the flavor.
However, the landscapes are really beautiful and even stunning.
This is if you are lucky enough to have a good weather: no mist, no clouds, no fog.
So I would definitely recommend this place, and hence my 5* rating, but make sure to check the nesxt day weather before driving there.

Perched on a rock 800 metres above sea-level, this little town is a must-see place. We were staying for two nights and there was so much to see and lovely places to eat. Founded by the Elymians then occupied by Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs and Normans over time due to it's strategic site with views over the Bay of Trapani and the plains and coast to the east.
It is basically a triangular shape and there are so many little streets and alleyways to wander around and churches to visit - all worth looking at in their own way. Get a combined ticket that you allows you entry into all that you have to pay to visit to save you money. It is famous for its pastries and there are quite a few little pastry shops still run by people who lived in the old convents and orphanages and learnt to make them as children.
The Castle of Venus is also worth visiting - there are amazing views of the surrounding countryside from there.
Due to it's location, the town can become lost in the mist so do check the weather forecast if you are just going for a day.
You can't drive into the town but there is a car park by Porta Trapani, Porta Carmine and Porta Spada. If you are staying in Trapani you can get the cable car up the hillside - about a 12 minute ride and there is a large car park by the station in Trapani.
We absolutely loved our stay here and would recommend a visit. We visited in September and there were quite a few tourists during the morning and early afternoon but most people seem to come up for the day from Trapani so it's really quiet in the evenings. The pedestrian roads can be quite slippery in the warm sunshine so do wear sensible shoes.
