The Giau Pass (Italian: Passo di Giau) (ladin lenguage: Jof de Giau) (el. 2236 m.) is a high mountain pass in the Dolomites in the province of Belluno in Italy. It connects Cortina d'Ampezzo and Colle Santa Lucia. It is located at the center of a vast mountain pasture at the foot of Nuvolau (2,574 m) and dell'Averau (2,647 m) from which you can easily reach the Monte Pore (2,405 m). Impressive is the view west towards Colle Santa Lucia with the Pale di San Martino, Cime D'Auta, Marmolada, Piz Boe and Setsass, just to the east towards the valley of Cortina d'Ampezzo, with Tofane, Croda Rossa, Pomagagnon, Cristallo, Croda da Lago, etc ...

The view from the top was WELL worth the risk of being beaten up by a man in a leather Masserati jacket who snapped because our rental car hardly chugged past the speed limit. Here, you are met with a vast mountain pasture set at...More

Passo Giau is a nice windy road through "Sound of Music" type meadows, surrounded by panoramic mountain scenes. It is a nice and long pass with sweeping bends that makes it lots of fun on a motorcycle! There are still lots of tight bends to...More

The scenery here and the drive up there are absolutely spectacular! Some of the best mountain drives ever. The Dolomites are well worth the view!

For sure one of the top scenic drives in the world. Driving this close to the rugged mountain tops is amazing. Fantastic is the only word I can come up with. A must see/Must experience. Make sure to make it up during sunrise..

Passo Giau was an amazing hotel nestled in the mountains. The accommodations were very comfortable and the food was amazing. The views from our room of the mountains at sunset was breathtaking. It was definitely a special part of our vacation in the Dolomites.

This beautiful mountain has long steps leading up to the site. There is a restaurant with a large parking area at the entrance to the site if you want a hot drink or a bite to eat.

We are visiting Cortina in September and the Passo Giau sounds like a must. Can you hike the Passo Giau from Cortina? What is the distance round-trip?

30 mins by car from cortina so probably will be couple of hours on foot. You will be on a road anyway if you prefer to walk it but road isn't busy. Better to drive to passo giau where there is a hotel/restaurant where you... More
