Old Caserta is tough to get to but offers great views of Caserta, Naples and even the sea - or so I was told. It's cobbled streets and stone houses are well kept and house a stunning medieval church. There are lots of restaurants and...More

I took the number 103 minibus from the Caserta train station to this peaceful village. The bus ride takes you through several towns along the way, and it is used for everyday transportation by locals. Caserta Vecchia is the last stop on the bus. I...More

Up in the mountains the original Caserta is picturesque and much more interesting than the modern town. It also has restaurants that seem to be popular especially on Sundays and holidays for families from the surrounding area.

It's not right in town, but worth the winding drive up the mountain. Plus, there were more Italian tourists than American which I appreciated. There were outdoor cafes there too but we didn't eat at any of them.

We took bus #103 from Caserta to get to Casertavecchia. You can wander through small cobbled streets, see the famous Duomo, take a bite and that's it. Very quiet, not many tourists, in 1 hour walking you'd have seen everything.

Still a place where you can find peace. Out of the path. Original, historical, fascinating. It brings you back to the middle age in a glimpse.

It is a quiet Italian hilltop town which has great vistas and a beautiful old church. The restaurant on the hilltop is excellent. It is worth the trip.

Casertavecchia translates to 'Old Caserta'. It is a hilltop town overlooking the bay of Naples and is a 30-minute drive from Caserta. The views are spectacular on a clear day. At night, you witness a festival of lights below you. The town itself is a...More

the Norman Duomo: must see...charming little town with many many restaurants, high over Caserta. Minimal and magical. Difficult to find however, we got lost a few times.

First of all, take the bus for one Euro rather than taxi for twenty or twenty-five. Takes maybe fifteen minutes longer. Old village, nicely preserved, is well worth a four hour trip that includes the bus trip. (Note that bus leaves hourly from there about...More
