Incredible experience, a medieval city atop of the mountains. Nice view of the valley and good small typical restaurants.

The small medieval village high in the hills northeast of the ugly town of Caserta is a nice escape after an overdose of royal glamour at the Reggia palace. It was good to see that they renovate more and more at the royal palace – but for lunch drive up to “old” Caserta. After taking pictures of the Duomo –... More

It is not the same place as caserta. Arguably it is not the same city. Casertavecchia is in the outskirts of caserta. On a mountain-top overlooking caserta and even the sea in the west. It was a cloudy day off-season (october) and everything in this old-medieval city was closed. Nevertheless - the narrow streets and the small stone arches connecting... More

One of my favourite places to visit. A small medieval town with no traffic and stunning views over the local area including Caserta Palace- a number of excellent places to eat. Quite small so perfect for an evening bite and a walk.

And interesting drive from Caserta up into the hills with great views back to Naples and Mount Vesuvius and also the Island of Capri on a good day. The old town is not as touristy as some in Tuscany but still a nice walk through the narrow streets of antique with churches and towers

Have an Aperol Spritz, a good meal and a walk through a walled city. We ended our Friday with a drive up to Casertavecchia. Had a refreshing drink outside while watching the sheep grazing in the field next door. Walked through the village and finished the night with a "slow" meal and some great wine.

Old Caserta is tough to get to but offers great views of Caserta, Naples and even the sea - or so I was told. It's cobbled streets and stone houses are well kept and house a stunning medieval church. There are lots of restaurants and not much else to do except take in the view, enjoy the peace and quiet... More
