A beautiful city with a well-preserved medieval historic center. The city maintains and displays its Etruscan roots with pride, adorning pillars, doors, and gateways with clay etruscan statuettes.
Wandering around the city, you will encounter sites to visit and little interesting shops.
I was, however, disappointed by the lake front walk. The promenade is constantly interrupted by restaurants and cafés. This would be okay, except that the pathway disappears and you must walk on the street with cars. There's no clear beginning or end. A missed opportunity.
Worth a visit and wander in the centre if you're in the area.

This little lake side town is gorgeous. Great restaurants line the lake front. People biking and walking, both old and young. The flowers planted every where - WOW! What a beautiful job! The town center just feels so amazing, stone and rock everywhere, skinny streets. The restaurants in which we ate and had an apertivo, the people are all sweet. Don't waste your money on the castle/aquarium entrance.

We spent one night here on our way from Benevento to Florence. Bolsena is a small town that offers swimming and boating on its huge lake in conjunction with its historic district and medieval fort.

Bolsena is a small town on the shore of Lago di Bolsena. The old town is one of those typical Italian hillside structures with a castle and narrow streets with small shops and eateries. It is a short walk from the centre to the lake which is more modern but not overcrowded or overdeveloped. There are good restaurants in the town and by the lake and many more around other parts of the lake. There is a small harbour and you can hire boats or take trips on the lake. If you are self-catering, the Co-op supermarket is open all day and Sunday mornings but better still use the independent shops in the town. It does help to speak some Italian. All types of accommodation are available in the area. We love it and will most likely be back next year.

The medieval section is on the hill above the town. It is compact, very nice and very clean. There is also a small castle and a separate visitor center with museum.

What seems to be a little medieval town in Italy turns out to be a real gem full of history and lots to see. You have to be quite fit if you want to walk up to the castle as its quite a steep walk but it's worth the view of the lake and the town. There are bars and shops that sell hand made crafts. The castle surprised us with what it had inside .. I visited the town in November and it wasn't very busy but it was a lovely experience.

We enjoyed the town and did not see many tourists - not a busy place, but lovely. Loved the shopping, and the bakeries and cafes!

There is so much to see in Bolsena, You could start at the castle on he hill and walk down to the Piazza. From the main piazza a 3 minute walk to the chiesa de Santa Cristina. Back to the main piazza and then a 5 minute walk down to the lake where there are several restaurants serving great food and local fish. There is a convenient car park close to the lake, several bars and local vendors. The lake is a great photo opportunity and a super place to visit. If you are travelling in May, the weather is pleasant, reaching 25 degrees in the early afternoon, and cooling nicely for the evening walk

Do you know of an apartment that would be available to rent for 10 days from mid October, in the old town, for 2 people. Thanks
