    Authentic and Welcoming
We really admired the authenticity of this market. The walking paths were narrow and winding at some points but they seemed to have everything here! This is a good market to get frankincense at and there is also lots of gold to look at! You can get pretty much any kind of souvenir here and it is worth walking around. As a Westerner I appreciated the ability to get some Christmasy souvenirs. The vendors are mostly friendly and welcoming but be prepared to haggle a little bit. There are a few restaurants around the outside and some mosques in the middle. The Souq is close to the corniche and from here you can see the Sultan's yacht(s) and there are some parks and forts nearby. If you plan on coming at night you may want to consider taking a taxi to get in and out. We lucked out and found parking near the meat market on the other side of the street but we also drove around for about 20 minutes looking for a stall when we went in the evening.

    Know before you go
This is an excellent market with a lot of variety: textiles, silver, ceramics, spices and more. Well worth going. However: Know before you go! The local currency, the Omani Rial is very strong against the USD, Euro and CDN dollar as examples. I got carried away at a spice dealer and didn't pay attention to the total cost. The spices are costly: top quality saffron (worth its weight in gold almost), frankincense and others. Not to mention the fresh dates! Be sure of the currency exchange--to avoid sticker shock later. Don't forget to bargain! Merchants expect it.

Briefly walked around here, did not buy a thing!
Having visited so many souqs, medinas, public markets these last two months, I was surprised when my driver took me here. Thought we were going to the Mutra Fort. We briefly walked around here, saw the items for sale and turned back to the car after taking some pictures of the shops here. Recommended to visit it if you want to shop for souvenirs and gifts.

    Bustling busy place
Can get very conjested with tons of tourists and it doesn't help with every shop person trying to sell their wares including fake Vuitton, Gucci.... If you can handle aggressive people definitely go & check out. Easy walk from cruise port drop off

    Fantastic market but...
Nice market, but if you want the genuine feel of Arabic bazaar go to a smaller town. In Oman I have only a comparison with Nizwa Souq but I very much prefer Nizwa's smaller market to Mutrah Souq because of an owerwhelming mass of people and subpar quality of products (of which gerat proportion is of Chinese origin). Still if you stay only near Muscat definitely worth a visit. Superb surrounding area. Great sea promenade nearby. Sounds of Islamic call to public prayer recited by a muezzin from mosque close by totally unforgetable.

    Worth visiting
All right so the souk is nice and the vendors are friendly the massive issue is parking. Finally after parking when we entered the souk it was confusing as to what sections lies ahead. Eg if it's only spices, or only ... but guess that's OK too. I would recommend a visit as the Fort is close by and the corniche is pretty too. Enjoy.

    My experience in Souq Matrah
Souq Murtah is one of the oldest, traditional Souq combines many features in one place. Most of the tourists like to visit this souq because it has an unique features as designed naturally and the channels of wadi go through the souq. It has a very good location where next to Murtah port which combines three different view ,sea view ,mountainous view and the city view where connected to other museums as AL Zabir House. Moreover Souq Murtah is famous with the traditional local gifts where the tourist can buy their souvenirs for friends and family. Don't miss visiting Murtah.@omannatureoftourism&travel

    Personally, I would avoid it . . .
Not a fan of being pestered to buy things that are poor-quality, repeated over and over in numerous shops, and definitely not needed. After our tour group was dropped off here, I wandered through it for about ten minutes, then left for a walk on the adjacent Corniche, which is a much better experience. Go here if it is the only Souq you will see on your vacation, otherwise - there are better ones elsewhere.

A sensory delight and cultural immersion!
My november 2023 visit to Muttrah Souq was enchanting! The vibrant atmosphere, bustling alleys, and rich aromas created an immersive experience. From traditional crafts to exotic spices, the souq is a treasure trove. Warm hospitality and authentic Omani culture make it a must-visit destination. Don't miss the captivating waterfront views. A sensory delight and cultural immersion!

    Vibrant yet Overwhelming Mutrah Souq
Mutrah Souq is a bustling and vibrant market, offering a fascinating glimpse into local culture and commerce. The variety of products available is impressive, making it a great spot for shopping and exploration. However, the experience is somewhat dampened by the occasional overzealousness of some vendors, which can be overwhelming. Despite this, it’s still a worthwhile visit for those interested in experiencing a traditional market atmosphere.

We went on a Thursday morning and it wasn't that crowded. In addition, most of the things we bought were of a good price and warm-hearted people who were willing to accept lower prices. However, I must say that we came across some quite obnoxious people who were bad mouthing other sellers just to get us to buy from them by saying that their material was of a bad quality (the dresses we bought), this was particularly evident in the Old Matrah Souq.

This local market is the perfect place for souvenirs and other unusual Omani-related items which the average tourist would not regularly find in his/her country. Definitely worth visiting!

Relatively large! We loved the textiles area with a large variety of designs and fabrics. Note, this souq appeared to be run by vendors from the Indian subcontinent. While I did not feel that the vendors were overly aggressive, some members of our group were uncomfortable with these particular nationalities. These same group members absolutely loved the small local souq in Nizwa (run by Omanis). Note street parking was not tourist friendly. It required the download of an app and the user needed to place credit on the app before leaving their vehicle.

A very traditional bazaar. Almost anything you need. Especially souvenirs. Don't forget to haggle. Most shops take credit cards. Prices are mainly consistent. Restaurants nearby by the corniche. Good day out.

There may be some amazing displays and sights in the souk and it is certainly large enough to keep you occupied for a while but the constant badgering just put us off. I know the haggling is part of the 'experience' but if you just want to wander through and browse it's frustrating after a while to be constantly fending people off. Don't get me wrong, no one was aggressive in any way and the people were all polite but it was just constant. We actually didn't buy anything and bought everything we wanted from Nizwa soul the next day, a far more relaxing experience.

Typical tourist trap. Constantly had “cashmere” shawls waved in front of me - not cashmere. Bought a pair of earrings so at least I had some memory from the souq - the guy in the shop weighed them and told me they were silver!!! No way. I’m going to India soon, and there’s a better choice and better prices there.

The Souq is nice and some shops are very amazing. Too much counterfeit stuff and a lot of disturbing people asking to buy , buy, buy, buy….

Not the authentic experience i had hoped. Lots of cheap imported goods in plastic packaging. Was hoping for locally crafted goods Lots of trader interaction which i had expected. Wasn’t for me and didn’t spend a lot of time here
