This is a museum that was started by the Zubair family. The museum displays the family’s collection of Omani artefacts. It’s informative and worth a visit.

We spent about 1 hour in this museum. The cultural section is interesting, especially when explaining the symbolism behind the clothing. The coin and stamp section upstairs is simple with limited context.

If you want to spend your money wisely on museums, that is the one not to be missed. Highly informative and visually excellent place - you end up learning so much about this fascinating country and you do feel you are ready to explore it. We loved the map posted at the beginning, the detailed descriptions about clothing and incense, the explanations about Jewelry and weaponry and the beautiful surrounding garden. Make sure you have time for this place - no need to rush. The coffee shop in the garden is also amazing.

This is a small historic/ethnographic museum housed in a former residence of the Al Zubair family in historic Muscat. It is close to the Al Alam palace and the National Museum and it displayes the Al Zubair family's private collection of Omani weapons, costumes and traditional artifacts, all beautifully displayed and labelled.

There is a gift shop selling both inexpensive souvenirs and considerably more expensive pieces from the Jawahir Oman collection (run by His Excellency Mohamed al Zubair's daughter). There is also a small cafe.

This Museum complex which also includes the Bait Al Bagh is the main Museum of Mascate. Said to have been founded in 1914 by Sheikh Al Zubair Bin Ali as a family home and a gathering place for the elite. The Museum rooms were very well organized providing the newcomers with a thorough understanding of what Omanis are about cultural and traditionally speaking. The written information was in English which made life easier for us.

The museum isn't that big but is well organized and rich in information about the customs and traditions of the country. Not to be missed.

This museum provides exhibits that focus on the cultural history of Oman. There are examples of the clothing and jewelry worn by women, accessories worn by men such as knives in decorative sheaths, cooking gear, household items and other items essential to the day to day lives of the Omani people. There is also a comprehensive history the Royal Family depicted in paintings.

One exhibit I particularly enjoyed was a scale model of Old Muscat and a souk; the attention to detail was very impressive!

There is also a gift shop that has some interesting items unique to Oman.

This museum has a personal, intimate feel. This is not surprising; I learned that the museum was founded by the Zubair family which provided many of the items included in the exhibits.
