- LolaGo1Washington DC, District of Columbia6,634 contributionsTook many pictures here!I saw this fort as we were driving to and walking around the corniche of Mutrah. Took several pictures as we got near it. There are steps to climb, but it was worth the efforts. Beautiful views of Mutrah neighborhoods, the beach, the water of the Persian Gulf!Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 16 November 2023
- my journeyMuscat, Oman38 contributionsA hike in entry chargesThe main issue is with the ticket price mentioned in the official website and the fort entrance. In website, it’s mentioned omr 1 for residents and if we reach there they are charging 3 omr per person. I sent a email to the provided email and called to the number on the website. The call was attended by a person who is in Salalah and he is not the concerned person. And there is no response to the mail. Visited the fort this week. was not very busy and is not worth seeing for the amount of 3 omr. You can visit and come down within 20 to 30 minutesVisited January 2024Travelled soloWritten 1 February 2024
- Rim9 contributionsWe just stayed below and took pictures of the Fort, didn’t cost us anything.I see this from the street below, but expensive to enter. 3 OMR for non Omani residents and 1 OMR for residents. You have to climb up steep stairs, which is not suitable for elderly and disabled. - MarcusHurleyCalne, United Kingdom10,472 contributionsGreat viewsMutrah is the third fort on the Muscat coastline and guarded the bay just north of the main harbour. Another fort built by the Portuguese, on the site of an earlier structure, in the 16th century, it is now actually open to the public. It's quite a climb to get to and there isn't much there, some eighteenth century canons and a 1930's French Hotchkiss gun, all set up on battlements and turrets. I couldn't see how to get in to the main tower at the east end of the fort but the views from the places we did get to were impressive. The fort is small and probably didn't have many troops stationed there but it could mount a decent amount of artillery to deter any attackers. We were able to look down on a docked Russian ship, flying a flotilla commander's flag so that was surprising. With a bit of research I found it is the Russian frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov (543), in the area after exercises in Qatar but I was surprised it was in Oman, considering Western/Russian relations at the moment. There is parking just outside the fort and the ticket office (3 OMR entry) is next to the entrance.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 March 2024

It may have been there before, but the main walls and watchtower date back to the time of the Portuguese. It is now open to visit and offers panoramic views over Muscats natural harbor.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 24 May 2024
- MozzroomNew Plymouth, New Zealand674 contributionsGood Views Of HarbourThe fort is up on the hill overlooking the eastern end of the corniche. It is easy to access by foot but a bit of a puff if you are out of shape. Entrance is 3 OMR for an adult and is worth it as the views of the corniche and harbour are excellent. Worth a visit while in Muscat.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 June 2024

Worth the entrance fee (2OR) for the views alone. Always good to take in a cultural aspect of a country when visiting and this shows how important muscat was as a port.
A few cannons and a WW2 gun to see, but not allowed to enter the tower. Little cafe is very convenient if temperature is high…

It is small fort from where you can get a beautiful view of Mutrah and harbor. There was no visitor fee charged when I visited. There is nothing much to see inside the fort but it is a good view point. It has cannons of 17th century and a Gun at the top. You can carry camera, water bottles.

This fort was built by the Portuguese on an earlier structure during the same period as the Mirani fort in Old Muscat. Even during the 1580s for a worldpower like Portugal at the time it was quite an investment. However, one has to realize there was no Suez canal yet and to sail long distance between Europe, India and the Far East was quite hazardous. Muscat was of enormous strategic importance to control a crucial sea route. This has all changed and nowadays the location is merely a very nice viewpoint over the coastline and Mutrah port.

Recently climbed the fort. Counted 205 stairs one way. It is one of the Portuguese forts of Muscat. The view from the top is extremely beautiful. There is no fees so far. Soon there is going to be ticket. If you are in the area, don't miss it. Lots of canons on top.
