This little village is worth a visit. The nature around it is very beautiful and you can do different walks around here. There is also a nice praia fluvial. Come early to avoid the crowds.

A romantic and fascinating return. It looks like a fairy tale.
It is a fascinating village, full of nooks and crannies and history.
The blue doors and the small crosses on top of the doorposts tell the traditions and are a demonstration of the faith of those who live there.
A pure place, hidden in the Serra do Açor, full of smells and sounds of nature that embraces us.
Special and inviting!

The whole ride up in the mountain area in snowy time of Dec. was beautiful.
We stop almost every curve to take pictures of the scenic view.
And once we arrive to the village ( coming from Arganil via small local roads ) the
view was absolutely great.

I would drive through the narrow and treacherous roads just to visit Piodao again. I just loved this schist village nestled at the base of Serra D’Acor. It is a bit commercialized with restaurants and souvenir shops but, hey, the local folks do need to earn a living.

I walked through the village slowly, imagining how difficult life must be in this isolated village. And cold and damp in winter. The blue doors on every house made quite a statement.

I think the best photos of this aldeia can be taken from across the hill, right where the hotel stands.

This very small but historical village is buried deep into the Serra do Açor, who is a protected landscape area, with allot of breathtaking views, springs and pasture land. They also call it the “Schist Village” full of narrow streets.
Among the group of small houses, the building that particularly stands out is the parish church dedicated to Our Lady of the Conception, which is whitewashed and supported by some rather peculiar cylindrical buttresses. It was built by the local population in the early 19th century, with their gold and money. It has a good restaurant, we have visited and walked after woods through the village, where we have visited some stands who are selling pieces of “Schist Art” to the tourists.
In history the village as some of an ideal location for some fugitives from justice. But is is worth the visit.

The GPS took us through unbelievable narrow and dangerous roads to get there, reminded me of some documentaries on dangerous roads. No guard rails and precipices inches away...but it was worth while, the narrow streets and the stairs climbing were fun.
The pictures do not make justice to the village. Loved it. The way back was through other safer roads. Don’t miss it.

This is a small, historic village set deep in the Portuguese mountains. While a pretty little town, getting there is an effort. Much of the road is two lanes with no barricades next to the very steep dropoffs. Once there, there's a neat old church to see, but the place has also been pretty commercialized too. Unless you just want to an adventurous drive, there are other places to see that would be easier to get to. If you go, plan to spend about two to three hours.

I rode my motorcycle down from Porto to visit Foz d'Egua and Piódão. It's a 2.5 to 3 hour journey (206km) each way.

After a visit to Foz D'Egua, I arrived at Piódão. I’ve visited some sleepy mountain villages in Portugal but this isn’t one of them. It’s a bustling little place, that is firmly on the tourist trail. On the approach to the village, there is a one-way system to facilitate orderly parking. The village square has several stalls selling tourist trinkets as well as a couple of cafes. Below the village, there is a natural swimming area in the river. Yet it remains an attractive and enjoyable place to visit.

Beyond the parking area, there is no vehicular access. The steep and narrow lanes between the houses are only wide enough for pedestrians. I really enjoyed wandering through the maze of lanes, taking photographs. The lanes were uncrowded, despite the parking area being almost full. All of the houses are built from the local schist stone and most of them have blue doors and window frames. In stark contrast, the church and a smaller chapel are bright white. Roofs are constructed from large pieces of flat slate, in the traditional manner.

Certainly worth a visit, especially if you wander the narrow lanes and get away from the crowds.

This is one of the most popular traditional villages in the region. the weather is often cloudy or foggy, but still worth to go. There is plenty of places to eat or sleep in the village. Wander in between the small alleys and get yourself lost for a while!

This is one of the most famous historic villages in Portugal. Very well preserved and with a magic athmosphere.
The road to get there is full of curves but in fair to good conditions.
You can see the landscape as you drive through (unfortunately it was severelly destroyed by 2017 wild fires that hit the center of the country).
The villagge escaped almost by a miracle and it keeps its beauty!
