Despite the strong winds that bend the coconut trees and make waves appealing to surfers beyond the reefs, the beach is indeed very pleasant and ideal for families with children or elderly!
The stretch of beaches is long and goes up to Buraquinho, where the polluted waters are not advisable for bathing!
The orderly promenade on top of the dunes makes a walk or riding a bike really enjoyable activities day or night.
Getting there isn't easy be it by bus or car, make sure to have Waze or any navigation system active, but the decision is a wise one.
The few beach stalls available tend to overcharge, so be ready.

We were staying in Itapuã and got this tip from a local Uber driver. BEST TIP. 15min from Itapuã, we simply loved this beach and didn't want to leave. We stayed near the Araruama tent. We liked this part because we stayed on the lawn on the shore under the shade of the palm tree and close to the natural pools (the tide was low). We went on Wednesday 12/19, it was empty. Super calm, delicious water (not cold) and good wind, which meant we didn't feel hot.

The beach, I would say, is a hot water pool in Salvador. We went to several beaches, but we returned to this one twice. Wonderful. The famous "bolo da vein tent" located on the beach is expensive!

We stayed at Buraco da Velha Beach. The beach is super quiet. We caught low tide early, which allowed us to stay in the pools on the shore for a while. Delicious water and a place with few people. The bar has very good service too.

We visited Vilas do Atlântico for the first time in September this year and fell in love with the place. We rented a 4 bedroom house for 2 weeks, so that some of our family could join us for the 2 weeks we would be in there. If you are looking for relaxation during the day plus alternative fun in the evening then this is the place to stay, when in Salvador. It is 15 minutes from the airport. The house we rented was right by the beach which was at the bottom of the garden. We had a full view of the ocean from all windows and woke up every morning to the sounds of birds and the waves of the sea. There is a long paved walkway right outside the houses all the way along the beach, where people do their walks, take their dogs for walks. Also along the beach there are several restaurants where they serve mainly the delicious typical food of the region. If you don't like the local food, then you can go for lunch or dinner in one of the many restaurantrants in the
town centre. There are a variety of couisines, bar and pizzerias and they do cook delicious food in Brazil! We ate at a Thai/Chinese restaurant called TaiiSan and the food was absolutely delicious. We also had pizza from a place called "Celeiro" , which was delicious although a bit pricey. We would reccomend Villas do Atlântico to couples and families who love the sea, tranquility with a bit of fun thrown in.

It is a clean and cozy beach. You can walk on the sidewalk, seat behind the coconut trees or enjoy the amazing beach and landscape. Corals form natural pools. Great place for family. Calm place. Sand is white and water is clean blue and warm. You can see little colored fishes and other seaworld lives

If you are looking for a beautiful and peacefull beach, this is the place you need to go. It may be crowded on the weekends. But it is great during the weak. Great for kids, because of the natural pools.

There are 9 "bar" along the way. Notice that two of them only are working on summer. Try the ODOYA YEMANJA bar.
Place is relatively safe but avoid to exihbit expensive goods.
In the low tide, search for the sea pools. A pleasant experience.
Don't be affraid to try the "roasted coalho cheese".
Go waking or simply look for a cocoa tree shadow for rest.
Thats life folks!

Written 6 May 2020
