Home of the Marquess of Anglesey, with spectacular views of Snowdonia.Set on the shores of the Menai Strait amidst breathtakingly beautiful scenery, this elegant house was redesigned by James Wyatt in the 18th century. The 1930s restyled interior is famous for its Rex Whistler association, containing his largest painting and exhibition.A military museum contains relics from the 1st Marquess of Anglesey's tenure, who commanded the cavalry at the Battle of Waterloo. There's a fine spring garden and Australasian arboretum, with an understorey of shrubs and wild flowers, a summer terrace, and massed hydrangeas which give autumn colour.A woodland walk gives access to a marine path beside the Menai Strait.

The house is interesting and well presented, as usual with the NT. The gardens and woods are well worth exploring so allow time to spend in the grounds. The bloke at the entrance made sure we saw the red squirrel on the feeder.

This is a well maintained NT house with great views over the Menai Strait. Its main attraction is however the Rex Whistler mural all along one wall ( about 58 feet in length). This is an extraordinary work of art, and well worth the visit...More

Plas Newydd is a National Trust property set in extensive grounds overlooking the Menai Strait. While large, the sections of the house that are open are not remarkable for beauty or contents. The docents enthuse over an unfinished mural by Rex Whistler but this viewer...More

One of the most interesting houses in Great Britain situated in a stunning location. Situated on the Isle of Anglesey it is a veritable treasure trove, the house offers one of the most wonderful murals by Rex Whistler ever painted. Not to be missed

Yes, dogs are more than welcome in the grounds on short leads. Everywhere except children's play areas, the house and terraced garden.
