Saturday evening 17th December we were walking past this small Chapel just as the evening service was coming to an end.
This was the last occasion that the Chapel would be open before we returned home to the UK for Christmas.
It was poignant time to visit as the 5th month anniversary of a very personal and painful event.
It was such a calming and serene experience sitting on a wooden pew, in this simple but charming Capel, alone with my thoughts and memories.
We have walked by this Chapel on a vast number of occasions over the years, going to and from Gonsua Beach, it felt so appropriate to have this experience in a "happy" place

We were fortunate enough to be staying nearby this small Chapel as it was prepared for the celebration of it's Feast Day on the 26th of November.
At night time the Chapel was illuminated by hundreds of small colourful lights, draped with care and precision around the building.
As we walked by here, on a daily basis on our way to Gonsua Beach, we saw the preparations for the Festival progress.
This included the construction of a fabric canopy in front of the Chapel and the erection, over a number of days, of a stage and it's scenery for a drama performance on the night of the Festival. There was also bunting around the place
On the morning of the Feast Day the celebrations began at about 06.00am with the ringing of the Chapel's bell, accompanied by singing, prayers and the drums and bugles of the band blasting out. It all culminated in the procession carrying of the Statue into the Chapel, when the band reached it's crescendo.
Later in the morning we walked by the Chapel and stallholders were preparing their stalls for business later in the day, these included snacks and colourful plastic toys.
The well attended drama with it's accompanying banging drum lasted long into the evening.
Prior to the performance, at 19.00 the Statue of Mother Mary was paraded from the Chapel to a house in the village, where it spent the night. This was repeated over a number evenings, moving the statue from house to house in the village. On the evening of the 26th it was a little bit more special as the Statue, stayed overnight on a shrine in the guest house where we were staying. It was a special day for the villagers and they celebrated in style.

The place was serene . Though it was closed and we were not able to see the inside of it. The view is beautiful and I am sure in rainy season it will be breathtaking.

We walked by this church but unfortunately it was not open. When we drove by on our way back from Old Goa, it was open but we were too tired to do more site seeing!

Sunday 26th November and it is the main festival of this Chapel, the festival of Christ the King , Christ Rei. It all started about 7.00am with a religious service and continued throughout the day and into the evening.
Later on in the morning there were further religious events with a procession along the road accompanied with a band. The music did boom out.
There were some stalls in the grounds of the Chapel selling sweets and other items and toys.
A stage was erected in the grounds for a play, drama/entertainment to take place later on in the evening.
The Chapel was decked in lights with a canopy erected to provide shade fromantic the Goan sunshine.
A delightful spectacle.

It is a quaint little chapel, amidst peaceful surroundings. Luckily we visited on the Good Friday, so there were quite a few people around. But architecturally , the churches of old goa & Panjim are far better
