Il complesso monastico di San Nicola di Mesopotam, ad appena 15 km da Saranda, è un monumento bizantino molto particolare. La pianta è schematizzabile in un rettangolo tripartito: un ambiente centrale (nàos) coperto da quattro cupole con grosso pilastro centrale; il nartece d’ingresso, separato dal primo attraverso un colonnato e la zona absidale sulla quale si trova un affresco in buone condizioni conservative. A terra sono ancora visibili tracce del pavimento in mosaico. All’esterno tutto è distinguibile attraverso i singoli volumi ben separati. Sul lato destro è presente un grosso contrafforte, sicuramente di fattura successiva. Antistante all’edificio principale rimane un lato, sorretto da due pilastri in metallo, di una torre campanaria. Sul lato posteriore sono visibili tracce di altri manufatti. Ingresso a pagamento (100 Lek per adulto). Da non perdere!!!

Non distante da Saranda sulla vecchia strada per Argirocastro una piccola deviazione a destra porta a questo bel monastero, purtroppo quasi sempre chiuso. Anche dall'esterno merita comunque la deviazione perchè è un piccolo tesoro quasi sconosciuto. Ci sono alcuni bassorilievi, in buono stato, che sono veramente interessanti

Il luogo è scarsamente segnalato e spesso è chiuso, ma se avrete la fortuna e l'abilità di visitarlo non vi pentirete degli sforzi compiuti. Il luogo, seppur bisognoso di ulteriori restauri, è veramente bello. La Chiesa conserva il suo fascino sia all'interno che all'esterno, dove si ammirano le sue pregevoli architetture. Non si paga biglietto ed è u peccato, perché si potrebbero raccogliere fondi per il suo mantenimento.

Típica iglesia ortodoxa, en restauración el interior. Tiene particularidades como varios relieves a todo lo largo de las fachadas. Como muchos restos arquitectónicos de la zona...ir expresamente a visitarlo...más bien no...pero ya que estamos por la zona, si vale la pena acercarse y verlo por 100 lekes ( menos de un euro)

Située à deux pas de la route reliant Sarande à Girokaster, cette très belle église du début du XIIIème siècle de l'ancien monastère St Nicolas fondé au VIème siècle présente la particularité d'avoir deux nefs, ce qui serait à l'origine du nom de Mesopotam (entre deux fleuves, ces deux fleuves étant le catholicisme et l'orthodoxie qui seraient deux voies parallèles menant au même chœur). Elle partage une petite colline avec un cimetière. Très bien restaurée à l'extérieur, elle est riche d'assez nombreuses sculptures d'animaux et de monstres en ronde-bosse, probablement prélevées sur des bâtiments plus anciens, voire antiques. L'intérieur, accessible pour 100 Lek, recèle de belles fresques dont certaines seraient d'origine (du XIIIème siècle). Ce site, curieusement peu connu, constitue un havre de paix, particulièrement après l'oeil bleu.

uralte Kirche mit nettem Führer, der uns die Örtlichkeit mit Händen und Füßen erklärt hat, außen tolle Reliefs, super Athmosphäre aber renovierungsbedürftig,
abseits der Touri-Pfade und doch so sehenswert,

Очень красивое место, сохранившее фрески в первозданном виде, красивые фигуры драконов и орлов снаружи. Сюда точно стоит заглянуть!! Мужчина, который открыл нам церковь очень гостеприимен.

Een bijzonder klooster. Het staat goed aangegeven. Wij hadden gebruik dat ze bezig waren zodat we er ook in konden om de prachtige Ikonen te bekijken. De buitenmuur is ook de moeite waard.
