About
This fortress, with a vast panoramic belvedere from which the entire coast of Budva can be seen, was erected by Austrians on the Kosmac hill in the late 19th century, at an altitude of about 800m above sea level. This place above the village of Brajici was used as a borderline between the erstwhile Austro-Hungary and Montenegro.

We saw this fortress while driving from Cetinje to Budva and decided to stop - definitely a good choice! You can drive most of the way to it (albeit on a one lane road through a village), and then walk <1/4 mile up to the fortress itself. The fortress is open to wander in and around with no ropes or signs to keep you out like you would probably find in other countries. There isn't much in the way of explanation of the site or its history, but that's really the only drawback. It's hard to argue with a free old fort to climb around at your leisure on a beautiful hillside.

The ascent is not very difficult and it takes about 15 minutes, but you need to beware of snakes (we saw only one at the fortress). The fortress may be dangerous to enter. Nevertheless it is a nice trip (you need a car to get there) with amazing views.

I'm so glad my husband and I stopped off today on our way from Cetinje to Budva. We parked at the trailhead and walked the 1.4km to the fortress. The path is paved with homes along the side until it turns to gravel and then trail, steep up to the fortress. We went at sunset so the golden light coming into the ruins was incredible. Definitely go inside and have a look around (carefully). This really is a truly stunning place. So peaceful, so interesting, and definitely worth a visit!

Kosmac fortress can be reached by car from the coastline near Budva, or by foot by walking up from Kamenovo through the forest and up the mountain (3 hours hike from the monastery). I have done both, and if you have the time, the hike is of course the best with more and more stunning views the further up you get.

Great views of the bay of Budva from the fortress. Very interesting building but such a shame it is falling into disrepair. Built during the period of the Austro-Hungarian occupation.

You really need a car to get here! The bus from Budva will stop at Braici and you can the walk to the fort. Buses going back to Budva seemed less inclined to stop, so I ended up thumbing a lift.
Quite a lot of the building is still standing and you can explore to your heart's conent until a piece of masonry comes crashing down on your head!
You can look out to Sveti Stevan and back to Budva. Although it was sunny when I was there in the afternoon, it was quite hazy.
Visit the castle if you have a hire car, but don't bother if you have to use a bus.
By the way, it's free.

Fort Kosmač is situated adjacent to the village of Brajici, near Budva, on a hilltop. Sadly, the building is totally abandoned and in a poor condition. A spacious courtyard is situated outside the fort where a nice photos can be done. The views are great! Specially the sunset. Everything is so quiet. The place is accessible by a steep up footpath and the parking is available on the main paved road. Overall, we truly enjoyed to be here. This really is a impressive place. The place has its own charm. Definitely worth a short visit! Give it a try!

We found this by the odd chance as it was hidden in cloud when we first drove past! It is well worth the hike to see the structure of this old fort and the stunning views. Again no plaques detailing the history of the old fort but it is an impressive building and by the looks of it not one visited very often.
