A nice stroll up to the castle which is maintained and managed by English Heritage. Good views around the area from up here, as always a lot of history to digest. That William the conqueror certainly got about. Thank you

A perfect circular walk around the castle with Truffle, meeting friendly fellow dog walkers and listening to the steam train preparing for its first journey of the day to Whitby

If you ever need to explain a motte and bailey castle this is the one! Clear structures, obviously good views for defensive purposes and well maintained ruins. Good for an hour's visit.

The Castle has its own free car park just a few yards from the entrance, although, as it holds less than 20 cars you may want to avoid busy weekends. Entry prices start at £4.90, which is £1 cheaper than Scarborough Castle. The Castle dates...More

This is a nice castle to visit as there are enough ruins remaining to get a good idea of what it would have been like. There are also some great views from the top of the mound. A great castle for a short visit.

We were incredibly impressed with the customer care. Our first contact was with a very friendly young lady when we arrived. At our departure we wanted to find a post box and were given excellent direction by a man she called "the boss" who gave...More

Having grown up in Pickering in the 1950-60's this was one of our playgrounds, one we always sneaked into. Move on 50+ years and this visit we paid to go in. What wonderful memories this evoked as we wandered around this magnificent castle. The staff...More

Yes, you can go round in a wheelchair, but there are some restrictions, and dogs are allowed if kept on a lead.

I have visited Pickering Castle many times, and have seen people with their dogs on the castle grounds, and always on a lead. So I am certain that it is allowed.
