A group of us caught an early train to Pontypridd and took the children to Ynysangharad park AKA Ponty Park. It was a Saturday afternoon and the park was absolutely packed with families and couples enjoying the good weather. We brought drinks and pack lunches and outside toys (bubble wands, footballs, tennis bats, frisbees etc) to entertain the children.

We started the day with a visit to the playground which was fantastic. The equipment included swings, climbing frames, slides, a zip wire, trampolines and a huge sand pit where the children enjoyed playing with their bucket, spades, diggers etc. Within the playground there was also equipment for children with disabilities. Around the park there were plenty of benches and picnic tables. There was lots of green space and at least 2 cafes where we bought coffee, and ice-cream's for the children. In addition to this there was also an outdoor heated pool area called the Lido where you could find a full length pool, an activity pool and splash pool (We are planning on visiting the pool during the summer holidays).

At lunch time we ate our food on the grassed area near the play ground, because all of the picnic benches were full. After dinner, we went for a stroll around the park which was well equipped with tennis courts, historical garden areas and statues, and a band stand. Within the park, there were lots of flowers and trees and it was nice to see the squirrels playing. From the park there were beautiful views of the river where the children fed the ducks. The park was well positioned within the town centre of Pontypridd and there were 3 entrances. We would definitely recommend a visit to the park because it was a cheap day out, the park was very clean and safe and is a real asset to Pontypridd.

Having spent 5 hours in the park we wandered around the town centre and there was a lovely mix of shops including Warren James the Jewellers, Pep & Co, B & M bargains, Boots, Card Factory and Iceland. There were also independent boutiques and jewellers, charity shops and an indoor market.

Laying side by side with the town centre on the other side of the river is the perfect place to eat your lunch. You can get there through a small gateway between shops opposite Mill St. Surrounded by squirrels, birdsong and the squeals of delighted children playing in the well equipped play areas, you can admire the magnificent mature trees around you and enjoy the river running past. There's also a fully operational 1920s Lido here you can have a swim in, and just upstream is the 1700's old stone bridge and the Welsh National Library housed in a challenging modern piece of architecture. This place is truly the lungs and the heart of Ponty.

This lovely green gem in the middle of Pontypridd, with the Taff's River on one side is a nice relaxing park with quite a few amenities and history for all the family. It is just off th north south road A470 but its difficult to find close parking. For the family there is a park and small lido with a cafe selling the usual fare. The staff are lacking in any obvious charm and behave in a lacklustre manner so do the right 5hing and avoid buying! That saying is a nice interlude and introduction to the area.

Park is lovely as always however give the cafe a miss. It's grim. The staff don't care and they don't want to be there.
Really bad.

This is a lovely park. A really peaceful haven amongst the hustle of a busy town, No littler. Wonderful playground for kids, swimming pool, bowls, tennis and beautiful kept areas to explore or just sit and think.

This place is quite a find! Between the large park , walks, tennis courts and pool you want be disappointed. Really entertaining for all ages. I did find parking quite difficult but they gave built a new bridge to access the park . However it’s still a fair walk. It’s not accommodated for the disabled. It has a on site cafe which is a bonus and toilets.

After having a great breakfast at the Cafe Royale we decided to go for a walk around the beautiful park. The park is well maintained and has plenty of green space for couples and families to enjoy a picnic. I think that the park had only recently reopened due to the floods and Covid restrictions. Despite this the park looked magnificent and the children's play area was very inviting. I am not sure if the pool was open. There are also tennis courts and is a great place for people who like walking. It is a facility that can be enjoyed by everyone. Will definitely be visiting again.

This park is one of the jewels of Pontypridd, a large green area accompanied by sunken gardens, well-maintained flower beds, and a little uns’ play area. Lido Ponty is at the centre of the park - book your space quickly once it reopens as it’s constantly busy! Some history in the park with the monument for Evan James and James James (who were responsible for creating the national anthem of Wales) and the war memorial. All around well-maintained green space and a nice place to sit by the River Taff. It's a nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre.

Great park with loads of nice walks and playgrounds and the Lido offering an outdoor swimming pool and indoor cafe.

Always a pleasure to visit the park for both adults and children, would recommend to everyone to go for a visit.

Free car parking nearby on Sundays.
