We arrived in November and the fort looked closed, which was a blow to my friends who had travelled from the USA! But we ended up getting a guided tour by Julienne which was very insightful, interesting and had so much extra information. We couldn't...More

I enjoyed visiting Binchester, but the ticket price was a bit steep for what you see in there. I wouldn't want to pay for entire family to see it. I was there on a nice day with good weather and I was the only one...More

Not easy to get to as the road from town is closed to due it collapsing and therefore had to go the long way round, about 4 miles each way, However, it was definitely worth it as although they are all ruins, the site is...More

Literally next to nothing to do very very boring kids bored incredibly quickly and the price is a joke paying that much to get in and look at piles of rubble never again waste of time

an interesting and informative place to visit, to get here you have a narrow road to access which in places is just wide enough for 2 cars

Interesting bath house. Best bit is walking down to the old regimental bath house which still has the essence of what lies beneath an ordinary grass covered field. Wow. Further excavations in the coming years will unearth more. Let's watch this space.

The site is relatively small, but full of interest. The commander's bathhouse is fascinating, with clear explanatory material. Similarly, the regimental bath house across the field. The uncovered section of Dere Street is impressive, and, like the rest of the site, clearly points to the...More

Binchester is a small but interesting site. It is made up of a well preserved Roman bath, you have good views of the under floor heating system. Externally remains of the road and out buildings are on display. A further bath house has been excavated...More

Once dismissed as an insignificant little fort, recent excavations show it is more than that. Ongoing investigations - one to watch!

I'm not sure if there is a walking route, however the road from Bishop Auckland was closed the day I visited. It looks as if it will be closed for a while. I visited last week.
