The visit to Binchester Fort was on one of the hottest days of the year but it was very interesting. The guide knew what she was saying and enlightened all of us on the role of the fort.

Don’t be fooled by the title, what you can see is actually a Roman villa and bath house, and hypocaust. This is quite impressive, but the actual fort is over the fence on church land who don’t want to expose it. Worth a visit thou

We visited Binchester as my husband is interested in all things Roman. We both found it very interesting despite it being quite a small attraction. Worth a visit but probably better when the weather is fine.

If this site is so important why does it close down for half of the year. Closed from October to April but not indicated anywhere. Teens really disappointed as come across half the globe to see this.

Stopped off for a vist to this site as a curiousity. It was very interesting but quiet as it was late in the day nobody seemed to be about. It was a reasonable price of £2 for an OAP.

I had no idea you could see two well preserved Roman Baths - one for the fort commander, and one for the great unwashed - just 20 minutes drive from Durham. Ken Bradshaw gave an excellent, informative, fun tour. With a makeover and a decent...More

i have visited Roman sites before and was not disappointed in what Binchester had to offer. The site is well laid out and accessible. The lady at the information kiosk was helpful and explained fully about the site prior to us setting off. Soft drinks...More
