About
In a spectacular pterosaur shaped building watching over Sandown’s blue flag beach is Britain’s first purpose built dinosaur museum. Walk back through fossilised time to the period of the dinosaurs where you will find amongst the fossils many interactive displays. On a recreated landscape enhanced by sights, smells and sounds you will meet life sized dinosaurs including our animatronic Neovenator. Guided fossil hunts (which must be pre-booked) have proved to be a popular addition to a visit.

Good rainy day activity
Aug 2021 • Family
We visited here on a rainy day, Facebook page states you need to book to go, but you can’t book online And Facebook messenger not monitored, & phone wasn’t answered so we went anyway hoping we would still get in. It was very busy being a wet and very windy day. Luckily we only had to wait 45mins for a slot.
When we got in there we’re free activity sheets for children, 2 different age ranges which was great. The displays are slightly old but that didn’t matter to the children, some of the interactive sessions were very dated but not sure how much this was because of covid restrictions ( perhaps some missing).

All in all a good way to depend an he on a rainy day without spending a fortune. Really could do with the car park next to the museum being repaired as anyone in a wheelchair or walking aids who is unable to get one of the disabled spaces would really struggle.

Good way to spend a couple of hours
Sep 2021
This was a very good way to spend a couple of hours with my boys aged 7 and 10. There was lots to see and do, and the explorer sheets the boys were given were a great idea.

3 DAY FAMILY BREAK

A very interesting, and enjoyable place to visit, if those amazing creatures of the past interest anyone. My six year old Granddaughter was very impressed, and thoroughly enjoyed collecting the letters to solve the answers, and we followed that up with a trip to Black gang chine, but that's another story.

Went here with my 3 year old son
We both loved it, we have been twice before and although most if it is the same it's still great to look around. You have to book though via email or phone but you can spend as long as u want there. Lovely visit

Interesting but bried and needed more for the kids
Aug 2021
This is a small but lovely and informative museum. Since we had to prebook we were surprised at how many people were in there zt a time. We sanitised at all times but most did not. On entry we were told there was a play area upstairs but the lift messaging suggested this was inaccessible and there was no other obvious access so it was a bit confusing.

We tried very hard to get our girls excited about the exhibits and they enjoyed several of them, especially the robo dinosaur! But they did struggle with the glass exhibits and there weren't really enough interactive exhibits for them to be able to share with the other kids. We spent about 45 mins here and that was plenty for our 9 and 6 year old girls.

Disappointing
Aug 2021 • Family
The “Dinosaur Isle” name suggested an experience rather than an exhibition- as did the price. As another reviewer said, it’s one big room - some interesting stuff for older kids and adults but you can do an hour there tops before younger kids will get restless. Not much interactive content. Definitely not worth the entrance fee.

Not a huge place
Jul 2021 • Couples
We went at the back end of the day so it would be quieter. I’d been before but not for years. It’s not a massive place so you’re looking at a visit lasting between 30 and 45 minutes as there are only two rooms and that’s if you look at everything in great detail. The gift shop sells some lovely things though.

Perfect for the budding Palaeontologist.
Jun 2021 • Family
It’s not huge, so don’t expect to spend more than an hour or two here, however, for those that marvel at the history of these magnificent creatures, then it’ll be tome well spent.

It’s essentially one big room (plus a smaller ‘introduction’ exhibit), but packed full of information. My 7 year old daughter loved it!
