- Tommy W5 contributionsFun fun fun!Went to Sandown pier for my birthday and was very happy with the whole experience. Friendly staff, very clean and presentable. Great selection of amusement machines for all ages. We went to the seaside cafe for lunch and was very impressed with the food and service. Would highly recommend visiting - great fun for all ages.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 April 2024
- Steven CWorle, United Kingdom210 contributionsSuperb pierVisited Sandown pier today. It was very enjoyable. Free to enter. We walked right to the end, through the arcades and down to the fishing part right at the end. Good places for photos. Used the very clean toilets. I won £10 on a monopoly fruit machine. Invested £1.50, got a £5 jackpot which repeated! £8.50 profit. Amazing place. Well worth a visit.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 May 2024
- Amrita KBinsted, United Kingdom8 contributionsUp, and down. Not unique, although payments for toilets is unique, their upkeep is a poor view. Nasty. The games are welcome fun not expensive. Views worth every penny, this pier is wonderful, but let down with awful toilet facilities.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 1 July 2024

If you are going to do one thing at the pier definitely visit the crazy golf. It’s like a gem in a tacky sea of arcade games.
Lost world golf is £4 a player so we played as a family of 4 for £16. Very reasonable!
Literally like you have stepped into the lost world. So much effort has gone into the design as it’s so big for such a small pier! Lights flickered and ground shakes to replicate the ‘lost world’. It’s a temple theme! Courses are all different and you don’t get bored! We played for a good 45 minutes and didn’t get rushed round by anyone else playing. Best crazy golf we have ever been to.

Even, if like me, you are not a particular fan of slot and gaming machines, you cannot help but being impressed with both the quantity and quality here on the pier. There must be at least £200k worth of machines of various types and vintages. It is obviously big business here.
The pier is quite literally central to Sandown seaside experience, and it is a fun place to visit - even down to the(free) head through a hole photo opportunity , and the dodgems. It is a pleasant wander through the slot machine lounges to the end of the pier via the licensed bar and the cafe.
Nice traditional seaside fun.

We went in only due to weather. We were extremely wary of the fact no one was cleaning the machines. Relying on you to use the hand gel dispensers only and follow a one way system pinned to the floor that wasn’t ever going to work, and even took people in loops crossing flow of traffic. A breading ground for spread of virus IMO. Be responsible if you go to this place please, and keep using the hand sanitiser in mass volume.

This pier is always our highlight and I’m pleased to say the provisions they have put in to social distance was fantastic! There are protective sheets and clear arrows to show the one way system. The boardwalk cafe also carry this on with plastic shields between booths and a marker on the table to confirm if it has been sanitised. There are antibac stations everywhere and QR posters. It’s nice to see that it has gone pretty much unaffected this year!

Walked the length of the pier. Not our cup of tea, firstly you go through a large section of penny slot machines and then the food outlets ( burgers and doughnuts). Not until the end are you out in the fresh air again. Good job you have to wear a face covering, not much social distancing being observed.

Warning to Customers
Many of the slot / fruit machines on the Pier do not work properly.
When putting your money in many of the machines you do not get a go
The machine just swallows up your money.
It's been happening for months, these machines cannot be serviced
otherwise why is it still happening.
The arcade must make thousands of pounds without people getting a go.
The party time machines on the left hand side of the Pier along the
Side are the main offenders.
Party 2 and Party 3
Also the Pier charges people £1.75 to use the ATM, many seasides do not
charge customers.
To be fair the money drawn out is being spent on the Pier.
I recommend people walking up the Road to Sainsbury's and use their
Free ATM Machine

Clean place with good consideration to social distancing. Nice clean toilets. At the end of the pier is a few outdoor rides including dodgems which would of been better value if we had of bought tokens but member of staff manning did not inform us of this which was disappointing, you are left to work it out for yourself. Lovely cafe inside that looked cosy with excellent social distancing measures in place.

Everything you would expect from a seaside arcade pier. Slightly worn but good fun for the kids. Everything was in good working order and the arcade is huge. The indoor golf was fantastic and good value. The cafe towards the end of the pier was a hit with the kids with plenty of kid friendly treats

Not sure I’ve met many ruder people. All started with an order of chips. The weather was poor and it was very quiet in Sandown. We were the only ones at The Ice Cream Parlour by the entrance to Sandown Pier. Our order was simple, a portion of large chips for our 2 little boys to share.
I should have known what was to come, when the young girl taking our order had to write it on the back of a napkin. She also said her radio wasn’t working to call through the order. As we waited we had to listen how the serving area hadn’t been cleaned properly the night before, which wasn’t what you want to hear whilst waiting for food. After 10 minutes of so, still no sign of the chips and the boys were starting to get bored. I asked how much longer they might take and was rudely told to go and ask the kitchen myself. I said in that case we had waited long enough so asked for our money back. This I was told wasn’t possible.
With little choice we continued to wait. Eventually what looked like a small portion of poorly cooked chips was dumped on the counter in front of me. I assume this was by the manager. I said we’d been waiting 15 minutes for these, but instead of apologising, she referred to her till, to tell me that actually according to the time on the till, we had actually only been waiting for 13 minutes. She then verbally attacked me, asking me what I expected and telling me that it takes 13 minutes to cook chips. I’ve experienced some poor service in my time, but this certainly a contender for the rudest and the worst.

A whole days fun in one is boldly displayed on the side of the pier which is ambitious to say the least. If you have kids you could probably spend a few hours in the arcade or at the mini fairground at the end of the pier. There is an old fashioned charm about the place with all the traditional amusements a pier should have. It also has a bar, a cafe and a shop selling the usual seaside items. It is difficult to resist getting a pot of 2p pieces and playing penny drop games. A good haven if it’s raining.

My husband has a fishing boat is he allowed to drop us off at sandown pier
Written 4 August 2018
I wouldn't have thought so as I cannot remember seeing any areas where the general public could "land" a boat on the pier.
