St Mary's Lighthouse is an iconic landmark on the shore just north of Whitley Bay. Access is via a short causeway when the tides permit. In addition to the lighthouse, which you can climb, there is a small shop. They sell coffee in the shop,...More

Absolutely amazing to see, the visitor centre is very small and cute, with lovely souvenirs. It's very easy to spend hours looking around (if you're not with children that is!) so be careful not to be caught by the tide!!

Great view, friendly guides, nice little gift shop. You ascend an interior circular staircase which is VERY steep. Sensible shoes and a head for heights is a must. At the top you breakout into the room with the light/mirrors from where you have an awesome...More

Long climb up and not good if you’re wary of heights but well worth the effort. The views are fantastic and the small museum was very interesting. Plenty of rock pools for the younger generation to enjoy and a pleasant walk from the main centre.

The light house worth visiting anytime. One of the most amazing place on the coast, was foggy day, it’s not too windy

NO! My answer is based upon the fact that in January having checked the causeway time for the day we visited, the tide was "2hours" from coming in....We were parked next to the meter and we paid! Within 20 minutes the tide... More

Yes, on a leash. Note that on the land side of the island, near the car park there are two very good beach areas for running your dog.

137 steps going up and coming down - very hard on the knees as the stairs at the end are more like a ladder and are very steep. No hurry as long as it isn't busy.
