This is my favourite place to drop in to drink both alcohol and atmosphere when visiting Durham. It takes a little finding as it lies just beyond the range of most city centre visitors, although if you turn left out of the Marriott it's only...More

It's official....this is probably my favourite pub in the world. The Dun Cow is almost exactly the same as it was in the early 80s when I handed most of my student grant over the bar in exchange for the elixir of life Castle Eden....More

A character pub with stone passages, comfy seats and a very friendly atmosphere. Great pint of Black Sheep, wine not bad but room for improvement (if they sell much). No music and if i lived in Durham it would be my local.

When we meet for an annual reunion we always go to the Dun Cow for lunch and a pint on Saturday. It is always the same high standard, good value food, a good pint and cheerful service.

Popped in with a friend for a pint or so, which we do regularly. This time I decided to have the BBQ Chicken wrap with chips for lunch. Along with my pint of Castle Eden bitter, which is a premium quality, well kept pint of...More

A superb pub, full of character, a calm and friendly ambience and is what a proper pub should be. There is a decent selection of real ales and whisky, the wine selection less so. The food is pretty decent and good value, the scampi is...More

Thank you for your review Alastair! We do in fact allow children in the lounge area situated towards the back of the venue, but not in the frontal 'snug' bar so as to keep the traditional feel for the regulars, I'm glad you picked up...More

Atmospheric little pub and one which is a little quieter than some in Durham. Also a welcoming staff.

This is one of my favourite pubs ever! You don’t find its level of unchanged traditional ambience very often these days. Good range of beverages and lovely home made food are served by friendly staff-go try asap!

even though we are from out of the city, we always enjoy popping in for some good local ale and some good local chat, the pub has good local character from a time when the pub was "the local" and the staff always spot on.

Fantastic bar a little off the beaten track. Great atmosphere, great staff and a tag as the most haunted bar in Durham, but staff reluctant to expand on this claim. All in all really worth a visit ...
