I visited the heritage centre whilst studying at Durham and it is a great little independent museum! There is loads of information about the local heritage and I particularly enjoyed reading about the miners! The volunteers were really friendly and were happy to chat and...More

Went here by accident when in Durham. Was only £2.50 but would be expensive at 50p. There is more interesting items at a charity shop. Doesn’t even have many items of interest and isn’t very entertaining. I wouldn’t bother.More

We are very sorry you didn’t enjoy your visit. As a small independent museum run by volunteers, our admissions cover the upkeep of the building and care of our collections. We strive to keep these costs as low as we can, whilst providing a home...More

The place had caught my eye earlier and I wandered in because it was open (it has somewhat impossible hours which seems to be its greatest downfall). I had a very good time! For a tiny museum in a little town the place is outstanding....More

The entrance fee is £2.50 for adults, which is very reasonable. This is a relatively small museum documenting the development of Durham through the ages from Medieval times to the present day. There is something for everyone with interactive activities, such a brass rubbing and...More

Discovered this by accident due to road to cathedral being closed. What a delightful surprise! A very warm and knowledgeable welcome. Wonderful history which recognises in part the real people of the city and County Durham, not just the the usual top brass.

It's a bit disappointing as far as a heritage centre goes. Although it is full of information and the stories were interesting, everything seemed really cramped and tired. I wish they'd taken more care about the presentation and experience of it all. Even at £2.50,...More
