Palace Green has changed. Gone the sleepy and rather untidy University feel, it's a nice bit of greenery (extremely flat), surrounded by the ancient cathedral and castle at opposite ends, and buildings of various ages of heritage in between. Both cathedral and castle are excellent...More

Going to the Cathedral or the Castle takes you through the Palace Green, which is quite pretty, and provides a visitor's first awe-inspiring unobstructed view of Durham Cathedral. The Cathedral is on one side, the Library on another, and the Castle on a third.

The Palace Green is steeped in history, with the cathedral, the castle, a library belonging to the university, a cafe, where you can sit outside and people watch. Lovely grasses area, there was lovely geraniums in flower beds. Very busy with tourists wandering around.

Our treasure hunt was focussed around the market place and Palace Green. This is a superb space. There were tourists, picnickers, lovers, even someone reading a novel in fabulous surroundings. A lovely place to spend some time.

Palace Green is an open area in front of Durham cathedral surrounded by ancient buildings. The flower display outside one of the buildings is amazing. Unfortunately there are no seats around the Green to be able to sit and rest.
