Although this place is of some historical interest, there is not much to see and it is not much more than a traffic through fare. I suggest you include it in a walking tour of Beverley for other purposes - there is a very pleasant little park nearby (Coronation Gardens) which merits your time more - but don't make a... More

As a resident of Beverley I feel someone should add a touch of realism to some of the comments. It is striking and unusual. Agreed. However it is a traffic light set at one end of a shopping street. There are loads of reasons to visit Beverley but there is literally five seconds of information to read.

Beverley has a rich history with a diversity of trades which contributed to the town's economic prosperity. In the early medieval period Beverley was the tenth largest town in England. Beverley Bar or North Bar as it is known is the only surviving of three medieval entrance gates. With an early use of brick North Bar was built between 1409-10... More

This rare brick gatehouse has survived from the 15th century when it formed part of the town walls. It is still worth the short walk past St Mary's church to admire its quirky but attractive architecture. Whilst in this part of the town, admire the lovely Georgian terrace next to it on North Bar Within, and the very unusual black-and-white... More

I work on the north bar and its such a pretty part of Beverley! Always busy . There is plenty of parking but often the parking is full due to business but there is alway people coming and going so a space can be found if you hang around a while. Beautiful area .

Had just visited St Mary's Parish church which is located very close to North Bar. We wanted to see the remaining gate in to Beverley but disappointed that you can't actually go inside. We walked through the side tunnel and you can get an idea of how large this is and then crossed the road and returned on the other... More

I have known this iconic Bar all my life. As a child I used to cycle through it, quite daunting for a small child and not to be recommended now. The EYMS buses had specially curved roofs to accommodate the arch [you had to incline your head if seated on the top deck] and many a time large vehicles got... More

On the way from the town to the Westwood past through this great town Bar. It used to destroy double decker busses.

Love the fact that EYMS used to have specially-built double deckers with a roof shaped to fit under this unique arch from the town's past

North Bar is, I believe the only major part of the town wall that survives today. I walked through it a few days ago on my way to the Westwood from the town. It's a piece of the towns history and Beverley wouldn't be the same without it. In the 1960's prior to some of the current roads being built... More
