A beautiful garden that has been revived since 2001. The large stately home was demolished in 1951 and the site abandoned. Now visitors can see the grounds that President Franklin Roosevelt described as 'a dream of Nirvana, almost too good to be true.' Work is still ongoing and the restoration and features of this 400 year garden makes a fascinating trip. We have a good tearoom and are very easy to find off the A1.

We've been here a few times and always enjoy it. More recently we went in February to see the snowdrops and thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff are always very pleasant and it's been a pleasure to see the place develop over the years. There is plenty see and it's perfect for a pleasant stroll anytime of year.

But you MUST, the gardens are beautifully designed, there is something to please everyone, snowdrops, daffodils, hellebores, Meadow area, rose garden, yew tunnel, herbaceous border, river, orchard, sweet peas, something to see all year round, we went in... This is a gem of a garden, and we've been members for two years so we can pop in anytime. The gardens are beautiful, with special events such as Snowdrops Week and Sweet Peas. The cafe is good, with a variety of reasonably priced dishes. We've hired 'The Retreat' on a few occasions to meet up with friends and chill... More

This is a lovely garden at the moment snowdrops are out and look beautiful along with the aconites. Different times of year of course there is different things to see, Nice little cafe and also gift shop . A lounge to sit in if cold to have a coffee and cake. You can buy plants and baskets/containers for garden

Last visited July 2015 - Sweet Pea Week. An interesting contrast to visit in winter but a beautiful place at any time of year!

We visited the wonderful banks of snowdrops yesterday with my daughter and 3 grandchildren aged 11,9 and 7 and we all loved it and cannot wait to visited again at a different time of year. The atmosphere is one of someone's private garden, a gem well presented but without commercialism. We were there 2.5hrs on a February afternoon. You do... More

Never have I seen such a magnificent display of snowdrops..huge swathes clinging to the banks, clumps and singles...wonderful. Today there were just enough aconites to give us sunshine on the ground as well as in the sky. The downside was the cafe. Food was wonderful as usual bit what an uncomfortable experience eating at the table whilst a never ending... More
