An interesting monument to Nelson. The information around it is very informative as is the picture of the column when it was built. It shows it was built next to the sea. Now it quite a way from the sea shore. Probably why the industrial units are now around it. Nevertheless it's worth a car trip to see it.

This monument to Nelson was paid for by the people of Norfolk. Located here as this was the centre of navy activity in Norfolk at that time. The locals seem to have taken to Nelson in a big way, even though he was born in North Norfolk (Burnham) rather than anywhere near here. The monument is more interesting than Nelson's... More

It's amazing, and there are really good interpretation boards around it, designed for both adults and children It originally stood on its own, with just a cottage for its... More

I suspect the industrial estate came later, but how weird! The monument is impressive and there's a great view from the top. It's just the location!

This is a really inpressive monument and worth a walk over to see it as it honours the great Horatio Nelson, just such a shame it is surrounded by industrial units and stuff.

We stopped by here just to see what it was. The column is quite impressive and you can see it across the town. No one seems to know why Britannia is facing inland rather than out to sea. Although there is speculation. The column is in the Port area, so not the most attractive part of Yarmouth to visit. There... More
