Knutsford Heritage Centre is the best way to discover Knutsford and Elizabeth Gaskell’s Cranford. Changing exhibitions tell the story of Knutsford and its people. Official Walking Tours of Knutsford run every Friday morning (at 11am) from May-October. The Centre also houses the famous Knutsford Tapestry, measuring 52 metres it took 4 years to complete and involved 3,000 people in the stitching. It captures the architecture and every day life of Knutsford in the year 2000.

We're pleased you enjoyed your visit to Knutsford's Heritage Centre. The tapestry is truly amazing - every time time I look, I discover something that I hadn't seen the last time! Please do come back again if you can as, in addition to the Tapestry, we will have different exhibitions running throughout the year. More

I visited just before Christmas with a very good friend who lives locally. We met through studying art history and had been to the Lady Lever Gallery earlier that day and my friend suggested seeing the tapestry. It really is wonderful, however it's location and presentation/lighting does not really do it justice. It really is a lovely thing for Knutsford to... More

Lisa, thank you for your kind review of our Millennium Tapestry in the Upper Gallery. In terms of the current location and presentation/lighting, we endeavour to do the very best that we can within our current budget. We are so glad that you considered the tapestry wonderful - we kind of agree too :) More

Tucked between Top Street and Bottom Street, this little Knutsford gem is a great way to find out about the area and its history. Regularly changing exhibitions and talks, sweep through the history of this area of Cheshire - and are totally in keeping with the friendly atmosphere created by volunteers and Friends. Why not join the Friends, taking part... More

The Knutsford Millenium Tapestry is the main draw and one of the volunteers (Robert?) explained it in detail for us. Apart from that there is currently an exhibition on Canute's connection with the town and a display of some of the May Queen's crowns from over the years (apparently May Queen celebrations are big in Knutsford!). If you're in Knutsford,... More

We were welcomed by a friendly volunteer at the entrance/shop for the heritage centre. She gave us an overview of the history of the site then pointed us in the direction of the King Canute exhibition and tapestry. The tapestry was a nice touch and worth coming for but a little underwhelmed by the Canute display.

The heritage centre is tucked away just off the high street. We were warmly welcomed by the staff who were knowledgeable about the history of Knutsford. The most interesting part was the impressive tapestry. We only had a short visit here, there's not loads to see but it's free and worth a quick stop if you are in the area.

The tapestry of knutsford was impressive but not much else there. Worth a stop off if you are in the area but not big enough for a special trip.

Knutsford has such a lot of Heritage their is actually a lot to see and the shop has some really nice quality gifts. The Heritage Centre and the people staffing it itself are charming, very like Knutsford itself. Well worth a visit.

Dear Paul B Thank you so much for the lovely feedback on Knutsford and the Heritage Centre. It is "a joy" to live and work in such a beautiful town. Nearly all the volunteers working at the Heritage Centre are from Knutsford itself providing a wealth of experience and knowledge to be shared with our visitors. We are so pleased... More

Just Knutsford all round this place it really is. Everyone new to the town should pay this place a visit as soon as they arrive , especially new residents. The tapestry and the may day history upstairs is just superb as is the books and history on the town in general on offer from the staff who are hugely knowledgeable.
