Rutland water covers a vast area. We visited it on a Sunday and it was very busy. The paths provide a good surface to walk on, however it is shared by the cyclists so you need to be aware and keep your eyes peeled. The all day parking ticket is great value and allows you to access all the car... More

Been planning this for a while. There are 2 walks - 17 and 24 miles. We picked the 17 mile one! We are experienced walkers and did it in 6 hours with 4 stops - food, drink, check feet etc! There are plenty of car parks - a few were closed as the season has not quite started yet. We... More

Visited Rutland Water yesterday after a gap of appriximately ten years. Parking was easy and reasonable at £3.50 for upto 3 hours. We parked up at Whitwell and did a brisk walk to the next destination, stopped at the Harbour View cafe, indulging in a slice of Orange and Poppy cake and coffee whilst my husband chose the Syrup tart... I keep my boat here so I get over quite a few times. People mention the car parking charges but during warm weekends the place is packed! It seems to be very popular for family picnics in the summer. There are toilets at all the car parks and a few cafes if you haven't brought a drink. We like to... More

Really enjoyed our walks around Rutland Water, it is so beautiful. As we went in March it wasn't too busy and the weather was very kind to us. Would certainly go again.

Rutland water is a huge reservoir and is mostly accessible all round. Lots of cyclists and dog walkers but it is so huge that they don't spoil the enjoyment of walkers. some really good paths and interesting sights. The chutch is our favourite.

Rutland Water is without doubt the finest reservoir in Rutland, irrespective of the many different ways in which this can be assessed: water holding capacity, number of peninsulas, percentage of reservoir in Rutland and so on. Visitors who are rightly charged a fortune to park there should shut up moaning and enjoy the benefits: lovely walks, cycling, sailing, the chance... More

Vast lake-sized reservoir, created in 1974 and now a major leisure attraction with extensive woodland walks around the edge. Also popular with cyclists and picnickers. Normanton Church, half submerged below the level of the water, is the most interesting attraction, but anywhere on the lake is well worth visiting.
