I have lived in nearby Chepstow for some 45 years. Locally it has always been argued not to buy a house in Tintern in that in the summer it is like a goldfish bowl and the winter being in a valley one never sees sunlight. Whilst one pub covers both visitors and locals the main pub is the Anchor and... More

A nice place for a quick stop . . .Make sure you walk up the hill opposite the abbey to look at the derelict church and graveyard. It's actually much more interesting than the abbey. Shops are expensive

This village is a magnet which draws people every year. Tucked away in the Wye Valley, it offers some great places to visit - all within walking distance. Tintern Tea Rooms by the river is set on the site of the old railway station. The Victorian station building and some carriages are used as shops and a restaurant. This was... More

We spend there 3 days, very nice place, lovely views and plenty to do. Our recommended are: abbey, devil's pulpit, food at Anchor and walk along the river. Great little coffee shops and places to sit or buy souvenirs. Would like to visit again.

Very picturesque place - Take time to explore a bit further than just visiting the famous abbey. The Tintern Trail is a great little walk up the valley and it goes past some of the fascinating industrial heritage sites that bear testament to the historical past of this place. Believe it or not Tintern used to be a hum of... More

This is just a quick 10-15 drive from Chepstow, Wales along a beautiful forested road. The Abby is obviously very old and strategically located along the Wye River.

We enjoyed a long weekend in Tintern, enjoying a much needed quiet break. We enjoyed the abbey and some great walks along the river and up to Devils Pulpit. We found the second hand bookshop and had a good browse and reminice over the collection of children's books. We enjoyed good meals at the hotel and nearby pubs, the food... More

Tintern Village is a wonderfully picturesque village on the banks of the river Wye, the towering ruins of Tintern Abbey dominate the village centre and offer a wonderful glimpse into the past at the Tintern Abbey Cadw visitor centre and in the walls of the old Abbey itself. The Anchor Inn lies a short walk across the road from the... More

Abbey is great to visit, some nice walks that take you either through the town or along the river to the old Tintern Station which has a great cafe. Would recommend walking the river as the town is a bit run down in places!
