We had a nice walk exploring back of the castle. That is a accessible pathway from the park where you can enjoy the wood and the wild trees of many berries. The castle is not big but pleasant environment to enjoy the view while having...More

Such an accessible and impressive view point to overlook Newbury. Free parking and then a short walk up the path to the Castle. Great place for a picnic. Great photo opportunities and usually very quiet. We went for a circular walk from here into smelsmore...More

The car park just below Donnington Castle is Free. There is a short steep walk along a path to the castle, but worth it. The keep still stands, and a 2-3 foot outline of the walls that would have made up the castle before it...More

Easy enough to find and a long drive up to the car park after negotiating bumps. Free to park and free to view, this is a 14th century gatehouse, still intact and well worth walking around and gaining excellent photo opportunity, especially from the amazing...More

If your visiting this part of the country a pitstop to see the countryside and a view of Donnington castle is worth a few minutes of your time, but don't expect much apart from some ruins.

Only the gatehouse remains, but it is still a wonderful place to visit. It won't take long unless you are having a picnic, but the views are excellent. There is no access to the gatehouse itself, but all the original foundations remain.

There ia no access to the castle. There are only two towers standing. You can view it from outside. From the castle you get almost a full view of newbury. View from the top is great. Nice place as picnic spot

Only the gatehouse remains and some foundations but it's a lovely little site with a nice view and forest on three sides. The trails around are popular with joggers and dog walkers. It's free. I'm only giving four stars because you don't get to climb...More

We visited Donnington Castle on Tuesday 26 June, and although it has just the gatehouse left it’s beautiful to think it dates back so many many years ago, it was destroyed by the Civil War. The entrance with its gates are quite impressive. All around...More
