Set along the historic Jurassic Coast and nestled in the tranquil East Devon countryside in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, our working farm is home to donkeys, mules and hinnies - large and small. Come and say hello to some of the hundreds of donkeys waiting to meet you. There is also the exciting new Understanding Donkeys Zone and Dr Svendsen’s Writing Hut to explore, as well as guided walks, meet the groom sessions twice daily, the Nature Centre, the Maze to lose yourself in and a range of souvenirs to browse in the Gift Shop. When it’s time to take a well-earned break, the Sanctuary’s new family-friendly restaurant, The Kitchen, provides local, ethically sourced food alongside spectacular views over the donkeys paddocks out to the sea. Open 9am - 5pm, daily. The Donkey Sanctuary was founded as a charity in 1969, by Dr Elisabeth Svendsen MBE. Open 365 days a year; entry and parking is free. Dogs on a lead are welcome.

Remembering the joy the Donkeys gave my late wife, visiting her memorial there this is a lovely place to visit if you love animals although my young labrador was not at all sure about the Donkeys 😁

Yes they are. People had their dogs with them & there are many footpaths for walking throughout the grounds. It's a lovely place to spend a couple of hours, no admission charge, & a nice cafe with a view!
