As mentioned in several reviews the Old Royal Station is being restored, but let me focus people to great little bike shop at this station. You can hire bikes (including e bikes) and then go a trail following a nice flat route along the rail lines and what a wonderful journey.. highly recommended.

The station burnt down and is being restored. HOWEVER Ballater is an experience and well worth the time to visit. You will note whilst strolling up and down the Main Street that a very high proportion of the shops are By Appointment to HRH the Queen and also HRH Prince of Wales. The top of Craigendarroch can be reached from... More

Although this wonderful old station is still closed for renovation, the walls surrounding it have several large photos of the station in all its past glory, with pictures of various kings and queens arriving in the village on their way to the Balmoral B&B just up the road. A fascinating glimpse of times gone by.

Not expected to reopen until November 2017. Pity this fact is not publicised at all - even still on direction signs in the town. It looks as though it will be wonderful when renovated.

We'll sign posted but unfortunately it's closed due to flood damage. There was. Lots going on around it but looks like it will be closed for another six months

Nothing but hoardings but hopefully it will restored to its former glory. There are other cafes nearby

I dont get it that people rate this as TERRIBLE! It doesnt do this justice. Okay so it was destroyed by a fire, but that doesnt mean that you should not go to Ballater. Anyone that does some research before they set off on a trip, they should know that this Old Royal Station is no longer. BUT they are... More

If you're thinking of making this part of your tour...don't. It was destroyed by fire and is being slowly rebuilt. Shame as it used to be quite interesting. Not much more to add except that you should still visit Ballater, it's beautiful.

Desperately sad that this place was destroyed by fire, and with all the flood damage in the town at the turn of the year, it may be some time before it is rebuilt.
