Firstsite is a visual arts organisation based in Colchester, Essex. Firstsite's stunning golden building was designed by the Uruguayan architect Rafael Vinoly, and opened in September 2011. The gallery initiates world-class exhibitions by established and emerging artists, produces publications, and has extensive learning opportunities and artists' support initiatives. Over the last fifteen years firstsite has gained a strong reputation by presenting ambitious work to new audiences in the East of England and beyond.

As we were in the area,thought we would pay a visit.A wonderful modern gallery with a several exhibitions.Also bit of local history and a great display of a Roman mosaic floor.Nice shop and tea room,free admission.

dont know what i expected but was a bit of an anticlimax to be honest , exhibits where good ,lovely photos , but just a huge space with nothing that left a lasting impression or prompted conversation later , glad it was free

rather interesting building from the outside and massive inside. We went to the Ed Gold photo exhibition, and then wandered into side rooms with other exhibits in, although i don't think we saw everything. There is staff around to help with questions. There is also...More
