I’ve lived in poole all my life and still enjoy using the chain ferry. My kids love it. I regularly use it as my route when working in swanage. It’s gets very busy in the summer for vehicles so we sometimes cycle there via sandbanks...More
Took our visitors over the chain ferry to begin a great day out. Then drove to Norden train station, near Corfe Village, to get the steam train do Swanage. This is a perfect trip, being on an old Victorian steam train! Swanage is such a...More
Took the chain ferry from Sanbanks over to Studland to journey on to Swanage. The ferry travels to and fro continually and the journey takes around 10 minutes. It’s easy to drive on and off and the ferry is well maintained. Recommended!
The alternative to the ferry is a long detour via the Isle of Purbeck. During the winter it makes sense to use the ferry but in Summer you may have a long wait. The journey time is only 4 minutes and costs £4.50 for a...More

Considering the distance you travel, it’s probably one of the most expensive ferry rides ever! But, it’s great and very reliable. The staff are friendly and it’s all very efficient. We used it at least 4 times with different modes of transport!

Yes you can pay £4.50 and take the ferry from Sandbanks to Studland and park in the NT parking in Studland, then go over the ferry from Studland to Sandbanks to take the boat to Brownsea Island or other boat trips, then go as a foot passenger again on the ferry from Sandbanks to Studland, then drive on your way from the NT car park in direction of Swanage, Corfe Castle, etc. So only paying for the ferry one way in total. Excellent idea.
