A small museum with good presentation of material from ancient times to World War II. One can learn about the history of the town; especially the rebuilding after the war.

We decided to head into this museum due to a heavy downpour and couldn't have been more surprised at how enjoyable it was. No offense to the small museums of the world, but sometimes they are cluttered, often only in one language (which always makes me wish I spoke more languages), and have disinterested personnel. This was the opposite! It... More

The folders present a nice overview of each room in the museum although it would have been better to have English captions for the items as well. Video of the city's history is only in Norwegian but the cashier/staff member explained the town model in very good English. The coolest thing in the museum is the Fearless lifeboat.

Guiding today, between the rain & the sun, I was able to guide in Ålesund Museum, but only outside, great views & good information. Both from World War II & development of Ålesund from1825.

Another day and another fab museum to wander about with easy access. The port is very close to the town if you are on a cruise. Take time to take a tour as the roads are amazing hairpin bends.

The museum shows a 14 minute film of the disastrous fire of 1904 which wiped out 80% of the town, and the way Europe responded to help rebuild and renew the town in 1905 and 6.

Stumbled upon this Museum on our Hop On/Hop/Off bus tour. Items from local history well displayed . They have the first enclosed lifeboat on display which you can enter . Predecessor to todays cruise ship lifeboats.

We recently spent time at this great museum. We were guided through some of the rooms by a very knowledgable young man named Richard. He really knew his history of Alesund and Norway, in particular the history of the WW2 years in Norway. We came way feeling that we would like to read more about the Norwegian resistance during WW2.... More
