Alesund is a pretty little city that has some very interesting architecture. It is spotlessly clean, streets well-laid out, harbor area very scenic. We toured around near where the Serenade of the Seas was docked and you could see the ship pretty much wherever you went in town. The town has numerous fountains, statues, an inner-harbor, and cafés and bakeries... More

This was an easy enough walk through several blocks of town to take in bits of history and especially the architecture. Some spots would be difficult for use of a walker or wheelchair. The guide was knowledgable, attentive to the questions and interests of the group and professional.

The first tourist Cruise to Ålesund 2016, I was allowed to guide some british tourists around Ålesund Town, this is a fantastic tour, and well worth the expense to see the town in all it's wonder.

Hurtigruten organised a short excursion using a well-informed local guide. There were about twelve people so easy to hear and also ask questions. Whilst it is easy to look around the town and see the old Art Noveau buildings on one's own, one doesn't get the sense of history or the local insight. We visited an underground museum which we... Run by the Tourist Information Office at the waterfront, this is good value for money, no doubt because the multi-lingual guides are dedicated volunteers. NOK100 buys you a 50min walk around town with informative commentary on many of the art nouveax buildings.

We had a walk around Alesund although it was not guided as we have been here before so new what to expect. There are some nice shops and some good museums although some are difficult to find (ask in Tourist Information). We decided on a coach trip around the city which shows parts of the city and surrounding area that... More

When visiting, be sure to take a walking town with a guide and be sure to get a local for all the interesting stuff. (Note: some tours are guided by college students from other countries). We walked for several hours taking in the sights with a guide that had grown up in the area. Her reminiscences of the town and... More

I would recommend to be curious and sportive, when you get to this city. It is comfortable for walking, nice and rather small city (downtown). Ålesund center has quite narrow streets, no one transport can not go to the beautiful pedestrian street Kongensgata, where you can have enjoy from sightseeing, came to different cafe, shops. Guide can show you city's... More

were there on a Hurtigruten Cruise and we made a 3 hours stop in Alesund. We took a tour to see the famous Jugendstil houses in the old part of town and the old pharmacy. Germans are very welcome, since emperor Wilhelm hepled the town after a big fire in 1912 by sending 2 ships with goods arriving 2 days... More

Arrived in Alesund after cruising over night from Kristiensand Norway, and what a delightful treat for the eyes. Started off as a small fishing village and now is a delightful small town with wonderful views and shops to please everyone. The berth we used was actually and virtually 'In Town' so no need to bother with taxi's, for us it... More
