Storhaugen ("big hill" in Norwegian) is an interesting viewpoint not far from Aspegata and Ålesund Church. Strangely, it does not appear on city map one gets in the Tourist Information. It is to the west of Aspegata. There's a park, some benches and tables, and a view of fjords, islands and the city.

You can get a beautiful view of the surrounding area from the middle of Ålesund without walking up the steps to Aksla :) with a handy stone map showing the peaks and islands around Ålesund

There are few, if any, signs leading you to Storhaugen, just west of the old stone church; you need to know where to go. Once there, you are happy to have made the effort. From Storhaugen you have a magnificent view of the town and the Sunnmøre Alps, as well as the ocean to the north and west.

The pretty Storhaugen Town Park is located on the other side of the center on a small hill, on top of which there is an observation deck. From it, Aalesund opens in a different form. Maybe not as beautiful as from Aksla mountain, but closer. You can walk around the park, it has a small Playground.

This is at the back of Alesund where few tourists go. Not special but pleasant if walking around to see the lighthouse.
