The weather this day was unbelievably beautiful so it made the island even nicer. This island has a beach, football field, monastery ruins, BBQ areas and a little cafe. Toilets were free and clean. Beautiful views of the other islands and the rest of the fjord. The island is also clean and there are plenty of places to get rid... More

The islands outside Oslo are picturesque and idyllic. On Hovedøya, there's both a lush foeest, an ok beach, strolling paths and old convent ruins. The monks brought exotic plants to the island (don't pick anything), and the history of the island is fascinating. You'll enjoy this place in the summer, but maybe not so much in the winter. The boat... More

It's fun to take the ferry, it's quite popular with locals and tourists alike, but you can quickly find space for yourself (in April anyway). Bring some lunch, spend a few hours here going for walks around the island or just kicking a ball around.

On a warm and sunny day this beautiful little island is a excellent choice for picnic, swimming or just a walk to see the remains of the old monastry. Just a short trip with the ferry and spend the day there, you would not regret.

This place makes a lovely day trip. There is an old ruined monastry, an interesting history and some great places for picnics and swimming (if you like swimming in a fjord that is)... We have been several times and would go again. Take a picnic, or go and eat at the cafe on the island!

Wish we had taken a picnic and spend more time on the island, really interesting, particularly the Cisterian monastery.

The most recommended of the islands near Oslo, we absolutely loved this island. One can easily spend close to 2-3 hours in this island. Walk around, get lost in the fields, go down towards the water or get up there to see the beautiful panoramic view of Oslo, and nearby islands.

The largest island close to Oslo. It can get very busy in the summer evenings. Try getting there during the day. A free boatride if you have a travel ticket for zone 1.

This is a nice place in the summer. You've got old monestary ruins there, and a beach as well as alot of benches and grass-spots where you can have a nice picnic. You need to use a ferry to get there, so be sure to grab the last one home. You don't want to be stranded there over night (it's... More
