Smack downtown Oslo, a stone's throw from the Royal Palace, we found the small Ibsen Museum, developed around his apartment in the same building, a good hundred years ago. Friendly and competent staff, simple but excellent displays. Well worth a stop before or after your morning coffee.

We visited the Museum as a group of friends in early April. We had the guided tour, which we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy exclusively. Our guide was articulate and extremely well informed, explaining not only more about the playwright himself but more about the time and place in which he lived. The apartment is beautifully kept... We got to the Ibsen museum for bang on opening time and were the only ones there for the tour of Ibsen's house with the resident Ibsen expert, meaning we were treated to what undoubtedly remains one of the best museum tours I've ever had. Our guide was beyond knowledgable and so invested in his subject that he could go... More

Didn't know much about him. Now I do! Mostly enjoyed viewing his home...fully furnished of the period. Not busy or crowded... we were the only ones there. Then walked a few blocks to a hotel and ate.

The Ibsen Museum wasn't initially part of our plan for Oslo (we only had a day and a half so were really trying to pack in a lot), however, we had the Oslo Pass and some time on the Sunday morning, so we decided to get there for opening and give it a go. Unfortunately we were told that the... More

To be honest I didn't expect much, after part 1 of the tour I was informed but not overly impressed. Part 2 the tour of his home was great. Mainly because of our tour guide, she added so much history.

The place where Henrik Ibsen lived in his last eleven years of his life. The rooms where restored using Ibsen furniture and other contemporary pieces. Nice exhibition with his plays.

We followed the Ibsen path from The Grand hotel to arrive after about 20 minutes stroll. The museum was fascinating with many Ibsen tit-bits. The best bit, however was Ibsen's apartment. We were fortunate to have a private viewing with an extremely knowledgable guide. This museum comes highly recommended

It was in an apartment upstairs in this building that Ibsen spent the last 11 years of his life. His desk is here and so is the room/bed in which he died. The rooms were restored using Ibsen's furniture plus other comtemporary pieces. There is a good exhibition on the first floor featuring Ibsen's plays and ideas. He had always... More
