Jumping the Ubahn down to Alte Donau ( U1 ) brings you out onto Alte Donau.
This is a great area to explore if you want a few hours away from the hustle and bustle of the vibrant city centre ,nice walks along the riverbank ,rent a boat and enjoy the river and views or just laze around ,a very peaceful area ,great views of the unique architecture especially of the Danube Tower ,well worth checking out if hours planning a holiday to Vienna.

On a river boat cruise and from the uk 🇬🇧 we docked on the side of the Danube. It’s just a lovely 🥰 area for chilling out. The weather was so lovely while we were here in September

The Alte Donau offers different possibility to enjoy the summer, having a walk around the river, taking a boat or just sunbathing. Especially during warmer days offers great opportunities, in a city like Vienna, but feeling in a completely different place.

You'll be surprise to see a lake instead of seeing the Donau itself . You may book aa day a boat and take a nice sunny day on the lake .

Pretty sunny afternoon at a restaurant with boat rental 800 feet from u Bahn Alte Donau spot. We enjoyed beer at the beer garden, while kids took out paddle boat with slide to pop in for a swim.

Jumping the Ubahn down to stop Alte Donau ( U1 ) which is only a short ride from the main tourist areas of Vienna brings you to a much more tranquil district of this most beautiful of city's namely Alte Donau.
This beautiful riverside area is cool, you can rent boats to enjoy the River Danube or explore the Donauinsel area with it's long narrow island and unique architecture, great views of the Donauturm ( Danube Tower ) Austria's tallest building.
Theres so much to do here and so much to see ,its just a joy to go.
My twin brother Stephen and I hopped the Ubahn down to here ,had a great couple of hours, although in the heart of the city it also secluded at the same time,a beautiful part of the River Danube and most definitely well worth checking out if your planning a holiday to Vienna.

This is an absolutely beautiful river. Walking to the UN buildings in the morning, I always stopped to enjoy the beauty of the river and the swans majestically drifting along its banks. It creates a holiday "vibe" in the middle of Vienna's hustle and bustle.

From the name it is the old Donau River, a bit complicated but interesting history about how Donau River affected the life of Vienna in the past and plenty of construction works had been performed to control the Donau for the wellbeing of its people. This water body now is actually cut and separated totally from the current Donau River. It is now used mainly as water sport and recreational purposes. It is a calm and controlled water body because separated from the effect of flash flood as no connection between this old river with the new river. Adjacent to the crossing railway bridge at Alte Donau Station as well as the Wagramer St Bridge are wharfs for boats and water recreation plays and also platforms on water with seats and benches to enjoy the sunshine along the summer hot days. Nice place when you like something related to river and water sports. Easy to visit these facilities when using Metro Line U1 and stop at Alte Donau Station and just walk, very close. Not free but you need to pay to use the facilities.
