About
Coaches and carriages of emperors and gowns and dresses of empresses The Imperial Carriage Museum Vienna in Schonbrunn Palace invites you to take a walk through the history of Austria. See the carriages of famous rulers such as Maria Theresia, Napoleon or Franz Joseph and accompany them through their eventful lives. The highlight is the baroque Imperial Coach, but there are also exquisite state carriages, comfortable travelling coaches and the charming children’s carriages of Habsburg princes and princesses. Another highlight is the »Sisi Trail« that showcases not only the Empress’ carriages but also personal mementos such as her only extant saddle, her »riding chapel«, and sumptuous original dresses.

Great little museum, fascinating to get so close to the carriages with all their splendour & history. The hearse is incredible & used as recently as the 1980's! You only need a short time in there but well worth it, we almost didn't go in but very glad we did!

This is a very fascinating museum highlighting many of Vienna's Imperial Carriages, and it has a lot of history.

The various different carriages explore the history of the royal family and portray the changes in technology and wealth throughout the ages.

very good audio guide and explanation - not too detailed, and fun. For me the highlight of Schönbrunn . Different to other Schlösser.

This exhibit tops our ranking of all attractions near Schönbrunn Palace. If short on time, do the Grand Tour and the Carriage museum, the Gloriette if there is more time.

My boyfriend and I visited this museum while waiting for our time to visit Schönbrunn Palace and I am glad we did! Being able to see all the different carriages used over the years and their purpose was very interesting. The detail in the carvings and decorations are impressive to be able to see up close. My favorite was the hurst carriage and it was interesting to know it was last used in the 1980’s! Make time to stop by this museum and check it out. Small enough to not be bored, but large enough to be with the money.

Something to see. Does a very good job showing the history of carriage use and the extensive use of carriages in all seasons. Some very ornate. Spend at least an hour when you are visiting Schonbrunn Palace.

The exposition contains wide collection of coaches from the baroque period. They are after excellent restauration and more artwork than vehicles.

This is absolutely the best & must visit place at Schonbrun.
(Most tourists think that the palace's rooms are the highlight )
An impressive and magnificent carriages collection, you can't decide which one of them is more beautiful.
This place takes you back in time and it's a like a magic taken from a fairy tale.

I liked very much this museum. It goes back in the history of the Viennese royal house showing the best examples of carriages, crossing the Austrian history with the pandemics that affected the world in the previous centuries.
