Coaches and carriages of emperors and gowns and dresses of empresses The Imperial Carriage Museum Vienna in Schonbrunn Palace invites you to take a walk through the history of Austria. See the carriages of famous rulers such as Maria Theresia, Napoleon or Franz Joseph and accompany them through their eventful lives. The highlight is the baroque Imperial Coach, but there are also exquisite state carriages, comfortable travelling coaches and the charming children’s carriages of Habsburg princes and princesses. Another highlight is the »Sisi Trail« that showcases not only the Empress’ carriages but also personal mementos such as her only extant saddle, her »riding chapel«, and sumptuous original dresses.

Amazing collection of ornate carriages dripping in gold giving an insight as to how the Hapsburgs and Napoleon traveled in style. Felt like being transported to another land seeing the section depicting a winter scene with the life size horse drawn sleighs . Even had...More

This is a must see if you are in Vienna. A beautiful array of coaches of all shapes and sizes ranging from quite plain to outrageously ornate. Get the audio tour, it explains everything.

We thought the carriages might resemble pumpkins, but they did not even come close. The baroque Imperial Coronation Coach, with crown adornment atop, was stunningly beautiful. This collection of Hapsburg coaches exemplified the supreme elitism which was the Vienna Court. From cradle to grave, they...More

This small museum is incredible. Very quiet but so unique. I have never seen such a collection. Everyone was impressed. Again, nobody on the floor to ask questions to. You are on your known.

I possibly would not have bothered with this had it not been free with my Vienna Pass! Consequently I would have missed out on quite a treat. The carriages are very impressive close up and each carries its own little bit of history that is...More

One of our top 3 European museums! First, how to get here and get your tickets, which is confusing and not well marked or advertised: 1-When you are at the main entrance to Schonbrunn Palace, walk straight back to some arches on your right. It's...More

Vienna’s 13th district has always been in the shadow
of Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, but has
interesting hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Allow half a day for the imposing Habsburg residence

other half to discover the secret charms of this posh
residential neighbourhood. Sneak out of the gardens at
