What a buzz during the Christmas season. I'm not crazy about crowds but I never felt mobbed. I loved the festive atmosphere and all the lights are simply delightful!

Maybe it was the time of year, but this place just looked grubby when we walked around. Lots of tourists (I know we were one of them) and maybe we need to go back when it wasn't so cold or wet. Suspect I would have enjoyed it more in better weather but the local guides/assistants were all on hand ready... More

The first day we woke up in Vienna we went downtown and had a fruit juice sitting just in front of Stephan Platz, and we could admire the huge Cathedral! Then, we went in and had a look at the usual ostentation of these places. There's a gift shop to remain blessed for the rest of our lives. Lovely building!!

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
