enjoyed the centre of vienna

We really enjoyed the centre of Vienna. We wandered around for a long time, but kept coming back to this part of the city.

This is where all the shops are , if you like to shop this is a must visit area. There is an Italian called italic in the centre that do very good reasonably priced pizzas.

The heart of Vienna it seems, amazing church that needs a visit - and if you have time go up the 382 steps to the top of the church!

Stephansplatz is the large square at the heart of the historic inner city of Vienna with the huge and wonderful Cathedral Church of St Stephen dominating it. The square itself is vibrant and charming - with hundreds of local people and tourists walking and cycling by. There are numerous shops, cafes, restaurants and other buildings of interest within the square... More

This is the centre of town and very vibrant with its cafes and bars and live music if you are lucky as we were.

The "Times Square" of Vienna! All sorts of shops, coffee houses, cafes, restaurants, bars & a literal "beehive of activity" If you can't find it here, it probably doesn't exist in Vienna

Stephansplatz sits right in the heart of Vienna. The moment you walk out of the Stephansplatz U-Bahn station, you can feel the energy of this lively and yes touristy area. The beautiful St. Stephen's Cathedral is the most dominant structure and worth a visit. The area is heavy on restaurants and bars, many with outdoor seating, as well as places... More

Main shopping street, but good for people watching. All the shops are here, including some individual ones off the side streets. Even if you are not shopping, pleanty of cafes to have a coffee and watch the world go by. Always lots of activity here. Pedestrianised so no cars to worry about.

Lots of tourists wandering the streets with cafes, boutiques and shops to browse. Vienna is a wonderful city and very easy to walk so we took our time to enjoy all the sights.

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
